Display Suite

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

This group exists as a place for people interested to talk about Display Suite development or share use cases; all development talk is encouraged here, from people who want to work on Display Suite to people who are interested in the API for their own modules. This is a good place to:

1) ask questions
2) talk about problems
3) propose ideas
4) talk about DS related projects

This group is now unmoderated, and anyone can join at any time. Public posting of ideas is encouraged.

Note: This is a working group. Do not post jobs here, you will lose your posting privileges entirely. Do not post support requests here; they will be deleted.

How to setup the RSS Build Mode

Hi, thank you very much for this great module! On a D6 site I want to set up the RSS build mode for story nodetype.
I created a view with path to articles/rss
With display = feed there is no option to choose a build mode RSS.
With display = page row style = ds-object choosing build mode RSS it doesn't produce rss format and is not showing images.

What am I missing? Is there any documentation on this?
Thanks

The future of Display Suite in 6.x

With all the focus on Drupal 7 and emerging work on Drupal 8, its easy to forget that there are still hundreds of thousands of Drupal 6 sites out there, four and a half thousand of which are running Display Suite. In fact, while the total number of Drupal 6 installs has been fairly flat for 12 months, Display Suite usage still appears to be growing, even for 6.x.

With that in mind, as the new maintainer of Display Suite for Drupal 6, Ive been focussing on two things:
* Resolving the outstanding issues with build mode storage and getting CCK multigroup support complete for 6.x-2.x
* Looking at revisions and new features to be included in a new 6.x-3.x branch.

Deleting blocks created with Region to Block

I can't see any way to either rename or delete a block created with Region to Block. Is there a way to do this?

Use different URI's for different view modes of the same node

Hi, I have a content type with several fields. Based on the site specification, we want to display the fields of this node in 5 separate pages, together with different related views in sidebar for every page. The original idea was to create 5 different view modes, but is it possible to display different view modes of the same node view modes ex.using a parameter, like node/13/1 , node/13/2 , or node/13?v=1, node/13?v=2 ?

Evaluating Tokens with PHP

Dear DS experts,

I've got a small problem: I have a content type 'arrangement' with a field, that can contain several values, e.g. 'excursion' and 'lecture'. I am displaying teaser, full node and so on with Display Suite on Drupal 7.8, and THANK YOU for DS, it's GREAT, and I want it to display like this:

'Excursion and lecture: Lüneburger Heide'

I have added a code field for the header using tokens:

[node:field_aktivitetstype]: [node:title]

It displays:

'Udflugt, Foredrag: Lüneburger Heide'. Flaw: both values have a capital first letter.

Display suite on forms

Hi,

I've already posted this on twitter last night, but I thought I would mention it here as well. I've got a working proof of concept ready to make Display suite work as well on forms. First reactions were positive, but there's more people here, so I'm hoping to get some more feedback on this.

  • It's a seperate module right now (it will be in the same directory as ds_extras and ds_search), so it's not enabled by default.
  • It only works on node forms right now as it implements hook_preprocess_node_form()

Improvements in the field display options ...

I would like to suggest some improvements on field display options itself, if it is ok, swentel. The display suite module is a huge attractor for d7 and thanks for this big contribution! But let me say, dispite of the option to use custom code fields, there are some deeply needed things which are still not available by even none of the modules handling field values and its output by default. A theme developer still can't get "deep" enough in modifying the semantic markup of a field without using custom fields or template functions. If that bothers already on views and on semantic fields, some of the limitations can be easely pulled off by some small changes in the standart body field display options, links field display options and an addtional choice, cutting more off than "reset". Let me go deeper here: ...

Is 6.x a dead soldier?

Is there any plan to integrate some of the 7.x features in the 6.x version? I'm still not comfortable migrating to 7, but would love some of the newer layout features etc..

Context integration

Spin of from http://drupal.org/node/1221892

I post some additional ideas:
- ds code support (condition/reaction)
- passing arguments to field (eg. block views) from a view result or ds code (as reaction)
- custom theming / layout switcher (reaction)
- hide / show a layout region

Use cases:
- node has term, display related nodes with term
- user has this role, display a layout-[$user->rid] layout
- user is going to buy a product, show the region with the related products he could be interested (based on cart or tracker as nid view arguments).

Pimping Field UI

Display Suite uses Field UI to add all its extra features in two ways

  • Extra vertical tabs at the bottom for the various options: layout, styles, region to block, custom fields
  • Adding a region column in the table, adding the 'Limit items' textfield next to the format and the 'Field display' link for the markup and label.

I think the solution of the vertical tabs has turned out fine and doesn't really need improvements here (unless someone disagrees of course). The area which could need some improvements though are on the table itself.
