This group is for everyone living in the Gainesville area who's interested in Drupal. You can post here about anything relating to Gainesville and Drupal, whether that's events, local job postings, or just a call out to talk shop over beers. To receive alerts about these events, join the group.
Meetups focus on connecting people. The target audience is Drupal developers, users, and people who want to learn more about Drupal. We start the meetups with a round of very focused lightening talks that discuss real world solutions to existing problems and Drupal news. These presentations don’t discuss code – anyone with a technical background can understand them.

The Gainesville Drupal Group met last night at the Alachua County Library District Headquarters in the Foundation Room. We had Mike, Roland, and Jen in attendance. Mike discussed the Display Suite modules and went through some of the really cool modules that he is using on his sites like @font your face, IE css optimizer, embedded video field, and many more. Jen showed the editable fields module. Roland discussed Ubercart and the new Drupal Commerce for D7.

Mockup: http://gatordug.org/mockupv1.htm
Note: I have most of the images located under /sites/default/themes/gatordugv1/images/
Note #2: The Fireworks mockup source file is under /sites/default/themes/gatordugv1/source/
Site access: Right now, we just have FTP access. Email Mike at mherchel@fhsaa.org, with your phone number and I'll call and give you the credentials (I don't send passwords over email).
As of this morning (the day after the July meetup), we have most of the functionality needed, but its very ugly. So, we need to clean it up!
To do (please add, remove as needed)
Create left "About the Gaineville Drupal Users Group" Block: My thinking is that Century Tower will be the background image, we can display:absolute the Gator Drupalicon, and have the link text at the bottom have a transparent background.Create Navigation on Home Page: The navigation is rotated 90 degrees in the mockup... this can be done with CSS3 2D Transforms, but isn't supportted by (guess...) IE8. So, my thought is to use CSS Image replacement on this. I already have the images created under the themes images directoryTheme and make pretty the Jcarousel sliders - this will probably be a PITA to complete, but is very doable - Assigned to Mike- Add Signup Button
- Change Favicon to Green/Orange version
- Theme Navigation on Non-Front Pages
Theme Members Footer Block - We'll have to float the images leftTheme FL Groups Footer Block - I have white drupalicon bullets in the images directoryTheme Twitter widget - I think this can be done pretty well with CSS, but we'll see...- Theme Node Content - the nodes in general need to be prettied up, this includes header tags, links, etc
- Add Secondary Nav - this includes contact page, etc
I'm sure there are several tasks that I'm missing. Please add them as needed. Thanks!

The Gainesville Drupal Users Group met last evening at the Alachua County Library HQ (in the Foundation Room). First on the agenda was beginning the theme for our new group website, GatorDUG.org. Previous to last night, we had the default Bartik theme installed and in use. I had come up with a mockup in which we were going to do (see the mockup here).
So, we started theming by first creating the *.info file, page.tpl.php, relevant CSS files, etc. We also installed the views carousel module to do the carousels.
We were able to complete the general structure of the theme and get the views configured within the two hours. Its pretty ugly right now, but all the functionality exists, and it just needs some TLC and CSS (and maybe OPP – who’s down?). Next step is creating a wiki page on groups.drupal.org/gainesville, where we can divvy out tasks so we can get the theme cleaned up.
Also debuted, was the new theme and configuration for www.SurfingNosara.com. We also discussed and demoed some of the intricacies of Apache SOLR search, and discussed some theming of minipanels in megamenus that will be going into a University of Florida IFAS site (don’t recall the URL).
Our next meeting will be August 11th. Hope to see you there!!

The Gainesville Drupal Users group had another great meeting tonight. We had a great turnout (9?).
The primary topic of June's meeting is doing the initial install and configure of GatorDUG.org, which will be the homepage for the Gainesville Drupal Users Group
- We installed Drupal 7 and several modules
- Talked about the new Field API and Entity System
- Created several content types: Location, Event
- Added fields to users (GO ENTITY SYTEM!), and created a basic view using the spectacular user experience that is Views3.
- We installed the Drupal 7 references module, and talked about node references and taxonomy.
- Talked a little bit about mapping through Gmap and Location modules (and briefly looked at the D7 statuses)
- Took a look at a site mockup that Mike (me) put together. Preview it here... comments welcome.
- Talked a little bit about the Video module and FFMPEG (this is completely unrelated to the GatorDUG site)
We had a couple new people, which is awesome. We discussed ongoing work on GatorDUG.org. Its unfeasible to complete the site in 2 hours per month, so we're going to open a discussion on the Gainesville GDO page to set up views, and finalizing the content. Next meeting (Thurs July 14th) will concentrate on theming.
Great meeting everyone!

Despite the fact that Florida DrupalCamp 2011 was just a few months ago, preliminary discussions about Florida DrupalCamp 2012 are getting started.
As many of you know, Florida DrupalCamp 2011 was held at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. This would not have been possible without the generous support of the Rollins College Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership Center (RCPNL), they acted as our partner and deserve all the credit for making their facilities available to us.

Last night the Gainesville Drupal Users Group (heretofore to be known as GatorDUG) held its month meeting (which occurs on the 2rd meeting each month). We had 5 people in attendance (Mike, Jen, Nadia, Ricky, and Mark) this month, which is a bit lower than usual, but it is summer up here (when everyone leaves town).
Quick Recap
- Mike demoed a development site and theme that he is working on for www.VisitNosara.com (hopefully to launch within several weeks)
- Mike previewed a new website mockup for www.GatorTailgating.com and ran basic usability tests on the group... this led into an interesting conversation of usability theory and topics.
- The group talked about increasing attendence. We have a 50,000+ student university in our backyard, but only one or two regular attendees from said university.
- Emailing the UF Web Managers email list
- Emailing the UF CCC email list (not sure what that stands for...)
- Emailing the UF Linux email list
- Doing a Gainesville Drupal Users Group Website
- Mike registered both GatorDUG.com and GatorDUG.org
- Jen will handle hosting (via WebEnabled)
- We previewed the Denver Drupalcon website and discovered its not running Drupal!
- ...which led into a discussion on deconstructing live Drupal websites via HTML source, and HTTP headers. Mike will give a session on this next meetup
- Jen gave an awesome demo of the Features Module, and showed us how to export content types, fields, and views, and then add them back by installing the created module
- Somehow the discussion led into input formats. Mike discussed creating a 'raw' input format and how to secure, and remove filters to enable a secure user to input javascript/iframes, etc.
- Mike also demoed the Better Formats Module, which enables Drupal to set a default input format (and therefor WYSIWYG editor) per content type.
Ideas for the GatorDUG.org website
- Members will write an article before giving monthly presentations (this will build up content quickly)
- Facebook integration
- Profile fields to link to profile on Drupal.org
- Members page (a user view) with images of each user.
- Easy to create an account and use.
- Other websites can link to this site using the "Gainesville Drupal" and "Drupal Gainesville" anchor text, which should rank us for those keywords in the search engines
Next Meetup is June 9th!
- Meetup will be held at the Alachua County Library HQ
- Mike will give presentations on Deconstructing Drupal, and also theming Webform submission emails.
- Plus much much more!
- Come see us!

Coding for a Cause April
Coding for a Cause April is on! Thanks to the excellent response from user groups around the states to my initial posting, we have had six user groups around the state step up and volunteer to help out.
This past weekend, during the Orlando meetup, we worked with Hewie and Shelia from CFCS to divide up most of the remaining tasks in order to launch the new CFCS.org site on Drupal 7. I've sent emails to all the user groups who responded with all the details.

I just posted this in the description for the Orlando meetup, but I was afraid not everyone would see it, so I'm semi-reposting (so I'm only semi-lame) it here.
