The Grand Rapids Drupal User Group (GRupal) is a collection of developers, designers, content managers, and businesspeople who use Drupal personally or professionally. We meet monthly, at 6PM on the first Monday of the month, at The Factory (38 Fulton S. West, Suite 400). Our meetings involve presentations on technical topics, assistance with each others' projects, and social time for networking and relaxation.
August GRupal Meeting -- Drupal Commerce
A case study using Drupal Commerce.
Drupal Commerce is the next evolution in drupal-based e-commerce. It leverages loads of D7 features. Many of the built in functions of Ubercart have been deprecated--much more is now handed over to Rules, Views, Entities, and other existing modules both core and contributed.

Hello everyone—
I am seeking clients for a class at the University of Michigan, School of Information. This class breaks into teams to work on Web sites run by Drupal.
php to run cron
Can anyone show me the PHP code I would need to execute cron from a custom PHP Rule?
I have a rule that uses the rules scheduler.
The scheduled rule needs cron to trigger it and I don't want cron running very minute just for the sake of this rule,so I want cron to run when a particular rule is executed. In other words, I want to add a rule "action" that runs cron. But to do that I need to create a custom PHP line because there is no action native in D7 anyway that simply runs cron.

I have a client that wants to add social media ( Twitter/FB ) type feed that would display a few of the most recent posts on a designated keyword topic on her Drupal site. She's seen them in Wordpress that show the post, date, source, and media icon ... so wants something similar.
What Drupal 7 module would you recommend and why?

I have a multisite install running, but when one of the subdir sites uses "install module" to add a new module, it puts it in the parent site's sites/all/modules directory instead of the /modules directory that I created just for that subdirectory.
Is there a way to get D7 (probably same problem in D6) to have a subdir user install themes and modules in his or her own /sites/modules or sites/themes folder so they don't get installed into the main /sites directory?

NOTE: This event is NOT taking place at our usual meeting place on Wealthy. Instead, we'll be meeting at the coworking space called the Factory on the 4th floor at 38 W Fulton–the same building as San Chez.
So for our meeting in July, we're having a hackathon! I've you've never been to a hackathon, it's pretty simple. Bring a project you want to work on or something you want to learn. At the beginning of the evening we'll each share what we're hoping to work on and start from there. Join someone you think you could help, or approach someone whose help you'd like, and start hacking!

We are really excited about our June Meetup, June will be a bit different for a couple of reasons. We are going to be celebrating the opening of Commerce Guys’ new office in Ann Arbor by holding our meetup there for June. This will also allow for extended hours with food and drinks onsite as well as space to breakup into four “official” sessions total plus space for breakout conversations if needed. This also marks the 6 month mark since Drupalcamp Michigan, would be a great time to discuss the idea of a second camp in 6 months.

Relation module tips
Has anybody used the Relation module [http://drupal.org/project/Relation] and be willing to share set up tips?
I have an acquaintance in Traverse City area that is working on seed saving site that requires farms to be able to register seeds and other farms to select and list any registered seeds (general jest from a quick conversation).
He is having trouble setting up the Relation module and would like some tips for this. I haven't used this module yet, so was wondering if anyone might give him some suggestions.
FYI - He said that he has gone through the tutorials.
Let's connect at Drupalcon Denver! #midrupal
FYI, any other Michigan Drupalers interested in meeting up at Drupalcon this week... we'll be using #midrupal on twitter to coordinate and connect! If you're looking for local friends to hang-out with for dinner, coding, coffee, etc. just send-out or look-out for #midrupal hashtags.

Grand Rapids Meetup next Monday
I remembered we are going to talk about D6 --> D7 conversion an next Monday's Grand Rapids Drupal Meetup.
I have one site (my own: Itcetera.com ) - a rather simple one - custom template but mostly html formated info pages and blocks built with CCK and Views plus the D6 blog.
If you wanted to use this site as the test case - I could set up a D7 new install on Media Temple for it (the current site is on a different server that I have access to but intend to move the site to Media Temple this month - so all my Drupal sites are in one place.).

Hello all,
I just created a Facebook group for GRupal. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/208956279194113/) I'm guessing more people check Facebook than Groups.Drupal.org, so I thought it would be a great way to bring more attention to the user group.
A small group of pioneering GRupalers had started a Facebook group a few years ago, but its on the old fb group system and its slated to be archived soon. If any of you are in that group you'll need to join this group.
