What should BADCamp do differently/better this time?
I'd just like to get this discussion started - what do you think that we should do differently, or that we should do better, this time around?
There have been a lot of successful camps from them, and we can certainly borrow some of their ideas.

I just got back from LA Drupal Camp and am really happy that Jason Chin from Magic Spark is also going to help us out this month opening this SFDUG meetup with the presentation he gave today at LA Drupal Camp,
Ubercart 2.0, e-commerce with Drupal 6 A practical breakdown on what Übercart is and how to setup an e-commerce website.
Presentation Takeaway: What is required and how easy it is to set up an ecommerce site with Ubercart and Drupal.
This will be a great starter session for those who may have never setup a shop using Drupal and Ubercart.

Greeting Bay Area Drupers,
Is the relentless beautiful weather getting you down? No problem. You can exchange the glorious summer sun this Thursday for a double helping of Drupal goodness.
Search and Drupal has been a huge topic this year, as Acquia has been pouring resources into integrating Apache Solr. Andre Angelantoni will be presenting on his experience customizing Apache Solr for France Telecom and Cleantech.com. He will be showing how to implement faceted search, which combines the best of traditional searching and browsing.

I would love to organize/attend a basic PHP workshop in the Bay Area, has anyone else got any interest in this? I am on the "need it" end of the PHP workshop. Anyone know of existing PHP for beginners (free) around here? I could help organize a workshop if there is any other interest. Just thought I would float that to the group.

This month we are looking at monitoring your existing Drupal site.
Jen Lampton, of Jeneration and Chapter 3, will show off her new Total Control Admin Dashboard module (http://drupal.org/project/total_control), which leverages Views and Panels to create a replacement for the default Drupal Admin page.
And Chris Bryant, of Gravitek Labs, will present work they have done on enhancing Drupal statistics.
Jen & Chris are both seasoned Drupal pros, and long time BDUG contributors. It should be a fun meeting.

Large Community sites and How Panels works are the two topics this month.
Drupal has prove that it can run even the largest sites out there. The team over at www.greenappleventures.com has deployed some of their largest community sites using Drupal.
This month our showcase site is http://community.mylifetime.com/ which is a huge high traffic community site running Drupal.
Listen to the people behind this site talk about why they used Drupal and how they built this site.

Drupal For Good - San Francisco Bay Area @ NTC 2009
If you work with Drupal in a non-profit/social change setting, are based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and are planning to attend the 2009 Nonprofit Technology Conference this month, I'd like to invite you to the "Drupal For Good - San Francisco Bay Area" session that I'll be leading on Sunday afternoon. This should be a fun opportunity to find out what's cooking in the local non-profit Drupal scene and meet our fellow Bay Area Drupal do-gooders face-to-face. Read on for details...

Penguin Day is coming to San Francisco on Saturday, April 25, 2009,
right before the NTC. We'd love to see you there!
Penguin Days are designed to let nonprofits and social justice activists
learn about free and open source software that can support their work
and potentially save them money, including tools for web publishing,
fundraising, blogging, and campaigning.
Full details are at www.penguinday.org. Thanks to the generosity of
Google, we're delighted to grant fee waivers to anyone who needs one!
Top 6 Drupal reference books available in digital format
Must-have-drupal-books for serious drupal developers are available online through Contra Coasta Public Library System. You need membership in CCLib to access these books online, if you reside in Contra Coasta county the membership is free. I believe all libraries in California are linked together so you may be able to access them if you belong to at least one of the many libraries in CA. These ebooks will alleviate those frustrating moments we find ourselves in wanting to refer an authentic drupal source when we are not close to the book that we just bought. I have been hearing a lot of buzz about the Context and Spaces modules. What do they do. I couldn't tell you. Fortunately Dmitri can, and he is the one giving the presentation.
Also, bring your stories about DrupalCon DC to share. We want to hear the latest news, what surprised you, and at least one new thing you learned.

Drupal @ 2009 Nonprofit Technology Conference - April 26-28 in San Francisco
Here's an event in San Francisco that may be of interest to nonprofit Drupallers. There are some Drupal/CMS sessions on the agenda. I'm trying to get a "Bay Area Drupal for Good" birds-of-a-feather session included, as well - I'll keep local folks posted, if it happens. The conference is held in a different city every year, so if you're local to the Bay Area, this year is a good opportunity to go. Note that the registration fee goes up if you register after March 13.

Berkeley Drupal Group - Feb 26th, Noon - 1:30pm - Upgrading to Drupal 6
This month's topic is Upgrading to Drupal 6.
"The drop is always moving" is a Drupal motto. The upside is constant innovation, the downside is that upgrading Drupal to the next version can take care and effort. This month Debrorah Fuzetto will present a case study on upgrading an existing site from Drupal 5 to Drupal 6. Derek Wright (dww) will talk about upgrading drupal.org to Drupal 6. And Gowri will give an overview of internationalization features in Drupal 6, and the virtual sprint to get improvements into Drupal 7.
Next meeting
Is there enough energy/time/interest to meet this month? Just want to know how majority of us feel. I can make a 20 - 30 mts. presentation if we decide to meet this month.

Berkeley Drupal Group - January 22nd, Noon - 1:30pm - Panels2
Happy New Years Bay Area Drupalers!
Let's get this year started with a look at Panels2 - it is considered by some to be the best hope to bring a user friendly UI to page layout in Drupal, it is the secret sauce in group.drupal.org, it is amazing flexible and expandable, and it can also make you crossed eyed just trying to figure out how to set it up. Straight from the ever fertile brain of Earl Miles, Panels2 might forever change the way you think about Drupal, if you can just figure out what it does :)
