Drupal and Project Management Systems outline and discussion

For today's BDUG (Berkeley Drupal User Group) meetup we had an open discussion about project management methodologies and tools, and layed out a basic plan for what a full featured project management system might look like in Drupal. I know many Drupal development shops each have their own tools for this, many developed internally on Drupal for specific needs.

This document is an initial rough outline, so feel free to suggest changes or other ideas for it.

Here is the wiki page:

Berkeley Drupal Group - December 4th, Noon - 1:30pm - Project Management Systems

Start:
2008-12-04 12:00 - 13:30 US/Pacific
Event type:
User group meeting

Update: Looks like we will meet on the first Thursday of December, since the last Thursday in November is Thanksgiving.

Our last BDUG meeting of 2008. It's been quite a year. Drupal 6 is now a solid product, with View & CCK releases, another win as Packets CMS of the year, and commercial support from Acquia. Enough to give everyone a warm glow. But we all still have work to do, and this month Jen Lampton and Chris Bryant will be leading us in a discussion about using Project Management Systems to get that work done.

Chris & Jen say:

At this month's meetup we plan to discuss project management systems. We'll cover what needs/requirements everyone has, review the existing tools & options, and define a rough blueprint of how to build a basic project management system in Drupal.

BADDER Camp

I was planning on dropping in on BadCamp next weekend, and just noticed the event registration is closed. Not only that, the waiting list is closed (wtf is that about). This makes me sad, because it means there are a lot of people who could be learning something about Drupal who are going to be hanging out in San Francisco all weekend with nothing to do.

Any UCB developers want to chime in?

Hi folks,
I am a staff member at UC Davis, and I would like to hear about the experiences some of you may have developing code (modules, themes, core, etc.) and contributing them to drupal.org. Specifically, I would like to hear from folks who are University of California staff members, or are otherwise developing while on the UC dime.

Drupal, 2008 Elections, Obama and you!

Folks,

I am currently working on a couple of volunteer projects related to the elections, drupal and Obama. If you are interested in putting your skills to use in this regard please give me a shout (privately) asap.

I'm looking for the following -

  • Light Drupal programming and themeing
  • Graphic design (I need a simple banner and some other graphical elements very quickly)

This is ideal for either:

Berkeley Drupal Group - TUESDAY September 30th, Noon - 1:30pm - Open Q&A

Start:
2008-09-30 12:00 - 13:30 US/Pacific
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

BADCamp is right around the corner (sign up over at http://www.badcamp.net). And there was much rejoicing. But since we are asking everyone to put together their best presentations for that, I think we should take it easy at this month's BDUG meeting. Let's have an open Q&A session. Bring your burning question and we will try and answer them, round-table style. For that matter, bring your burning answers as well.

NOTE: September is the one month this year that I wasn't able to get the 4th Thursday of the month. This meeting will be on TUESDAY the 30th.

See you all there,
-tao

Berkeley Drupal Group - Thursday August 28th, Noon - 1:30pm - Lightning Talks

Start:
2008-08-28 12:00 - 2008-08-12 13:30 US/Pacific
Event type:
User group meeting

With so many people in the group working on such a wide variety of projects and different areas of Drupal I thought it would be nice to do some Lightning Talks. Personally I would love to learn more about what everyone in the group is up to with Drupal!

Lightning Talks are short 5-10 minute presentations or discussions (with a short QA afterwards) about a particular topic. If you are able to show a little bit about the project you are involved with or maybe what you are up to in the Drupal community now is your chance. Topics could include:

Planning BADCamp08

Folks,

After talking with Tao at the last meeting I'm going to go ahead and start pulling together all the people who are interested in helping with our Fall BADCamp. First thing I'm going to do is make a round and talk to all those who helped with the last one and those who have already expressed an interest in helping out this time around. After that I'll likely schedule an organizational meeting so we can all get in the same room to work out details. Please stay posted here for more info as it develops. Please feel free to be in touch if you have any questions, either on- or off-line.

Regards,

Dan

Stephanie (aka stephthegeek) and Chris of TopNotchThemes will be presenting this month, on how to find the right Drupal theme for you.
