If so, please contact me. (I've already pinged Tom Geller, since it sounds like his voice.)

Having the script will make it much easier to make the Drupal 7 announcement more accessible.

Oh, and Angie says I need it right now. Or sooner.

Thanks!

We just wrapped up the

We just wrapped up the release announcement. I might just make it to this one meeting :-)

Rough transcript from this morning's meeting

Sorry I got so many names wrong.

Comments that don't start with someone's name (e.g. "Amazon:") were transcribed by me.

---BEGIN TRANSCRIPT---

[12:01pm] tgeller: I'll take notes again.
[12:01pm] You are now known as tgeller-pr-meet-.
[12:01pm] lisarex-afk joined the chat room.
[12:01pm] You are now known as tgeller-scribe.
[12:01pm] webchick joined the chat room.
[12:02pm] sxren joined the chat room.
[12:02pm] Amazon: http://groups.drupal.org/node/115409
[12:02pm] Kieran: Please look at the agenda.
[12:03pm] Agenda is at http://groups.drupal.org/node/115409
[12:03pm] Release page is at ...http://drupal.org/drupal-7.0
[12:04pm] nnewton joined the chat room.
[12:05pm] [New speaker]: Bojhan led a lot of the push, but it was a team issue... Mark Golden gave us the layout and PSDs and such. Jeff Robbins coordinated to make the video. Lisa, myself, Steve K? and Nike P? did the work on the infrastructure side with Neil Drumm... like 30-40 people, and I think it turned out awesome.
[12:05pm] Bojhan: Mark boulton*
[12:05pm] Amazon: There was a question of whether we should switch the home page to http://drupal.org/drupal-7.0 .
[12:06pm] [Speaker]: Neil had some concerns about that, because some people use a page other than the landing page, so he asked that we not do that. But the link is currently really hard to find.
[12:06pm] Ideas on how we can make that more obvious would be welcome.
[12:06pm] Also, in our news section, there's nothing about D7, and no place for people to comment on it.
[12:07pm] Amazon: Options: Make the press release the front page post; or enable commenting on this page (but it's not a node); or to write something that borrows from http://drupal.org/drupal-7.0 and the press release.
[12:07pm] [Speaker: ??? Who is this?] If we put the press release there... [lost audio -- but disrecommended.]
[12:08pm] [Agreement from another speaker re: press release]
[12:08pm] [Speaker] Would it be efficient to borrow info from the press release?
[12:08pm] [Another speaker]: We could use the first paragraph and then link to the full thing.
[12:09pm] Lisa offered to help.
[12:09pm] George: I'll be happy to review. [Lisa, George, Angie will be involved.]
[12:09pm] webchick: Oops. I forget we don't all know each other.
[12:09pm] webchick: +1 Drupalcon mention
[12:09pm] George: I think we should also mention Drupalcon Chicago in that story.
[12:10pm] Amazon: Press release was great, it went out. Thanks to Jen, George, et al. Went out 10am GMT. Is Tatiana on the phone?
[12:10pm] Amazon: tvn: are you on the phone?
[12:10pm] Shannon: It went out Businesswire, US National circuit with tech trades, marketing.
[12:11pm] tvn: Amazon, nope sorry, I am a bit busy, but can answer here if something
[12:11pm] tvn (Tatiana) stepped foward to help with 37 (!) translations.
[12:11pm] webchick: tvn++
[12:11pm] There was feedback from Dave Reid about having aliases for each language code. Any opinions?
[12:12pm] webchick: That would be nice.
[12:12pm] Amazon: Right now they're just node numbers.
[12:12pm] Tatiana (?): I did some of that but there were issues about [incorporating the subheds?]. I'll try to do that today if it's a good idea.
[12:13pm] [Sorry, that was Lisa, not Tatiana.]
[12:13pm] Lisa: I can help.
[12:13pm] (? might have wrong names.)
[12:13pm] Amazon: Is Megan on the call?
[12:14pm] Megan Butler: Here.
[12:14pm] lisarex-afk: yep, I'll work on the path urls for each translation
[12:14pm] Amazon: We have these 37 translations of the press releases. Any advice on how to get them picked up?
[12:15pm] Megan: [It doesn't matter whether it's a French release for France, for distribution.]
[12:17pm] We can definitely distribute. I'll call the Businesswire rep.
[12:17pm] Amazon: If we do that in Europe, we should mention Drupalcon London.
[12:18pm] Amazon: I'll hook up tgeller with Lisa and Ann about that.
[12:18pm] Amazon: Any concerns about the translations?
[12:18pm] Amazon: That's Megan and Pann Communications
[12:18pm] tvn: Most of the translations are not up-to-date with final English one yet
[12:18pm] [Amazon -- thanks]
[12:18pm] Amazon: We did 17 iterations. We wanted to finalize it last Thursday, but things kept changing.
[12:19pm] Amazon: Promote D7 buttons and banners. Is Joseph on the phone?
[12:19pm] Amazon: Oh well. We'll get the "Get started with 7" button up on d.o. Does anyone have questions?
[12:19pm] It rotates between that button and Drupalcon Chicago.
[12:20pm] [webchick?]: What's going on with the party announcements? When should we start that? Tomorrow?
[12:20pm] Amazon: Yes, tomorrow.
[12:20pm] George [?]: As far as I'm concerned, the front page is completely cleared for D7 stuff this week.
[12:20pm] Amazon: 263 parties worldwide.
[12:20pm] [Speaker]: There was some talk about having a larger banner on the home page.
[12:21pm] Amazon: What kind?
[12:21pm] [Speaker]: Something like what's on Acquia.com, that says WAAAAAGH, SEVEN!!!
[12:21pm] Maybe we could insert another row [at the top]? A "Getting Started" banner?
[12:21pm] Amazon: Is Neil Drumm on the phone?
[12:21pm] webchick: No, but someone smacking the desk is.
[12:22pm] [Person who said "WAAAAGH!" was webchick. ]
[12:22pm] webchick: I think we should stick with Joseph's images.
[12:22pm] [Speaker said she'd do coordination with Joseph.]
[12:23pm] Tatiana: Does it make sense to have a popup ad?
[12:23pm] webchick: No.
[12:23pm] George: -1 from me too.
[12:24pm] Tatiana: Floating ad?
[12:24pm] webchick: That's not so bad, but difficult, since we don't distribute our theme. (?)
[12:25pm] Amazon (speaking to Tom and Coln from LevelTen): I see today as day one of a three-day party. I think we still have some time. What are the highest-priority things for a social media campaign?
[12:25pm] LevelTen: Getting accounts and bringing attention to some of the content that's being created right now.
[12:25pm] Amazon: Which services are you talking about?
[12:26pm] LevelTen: It sounded like had something set up on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Flickr and YouTube would also be helpful, but probably not.
[12:26pm] Amazon: Any others?
[12:26pm] Amazon: What messages? How would we use them? What are we trying to promote?
[12:26pm] LevelTen: I'd say bringing attention to existing content that other people create -- like blog posts.
[12:26pm] Megan: We've put together an editorial calendar for Drupalcon that highlights D7 sessions.
[12:27pm] Tatiana (?): On Facebook, perhaps some questions, like "What are you doing for the D7 release party?" we can use it to inspire discussions on Facebook.
[12:28pm] LevelTen(?): Megan, to rephrase: Facebook is a conversational medium. Is there a way we can generate discussion?
[12:29pm] webchick: dropped a link?
[12:29pm] webchick: oh, webex.
[12:29pm] Link from Shyamala: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UE9Q7P2RWWTu54bjk1orKbtQP2-Zn0L2JDDy...
[12:29pm] webchick: thanks tom!
[12:29pm] (Sorry, I thought that was Tatiana earlier. Replace all "Tatiana" with "Shyamala")
[12:29pm] gdemet joined the chat room.
[12:29pm] webchick: gdemet: Link from Shyamala: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UE9Q7P2RWWTu54bjk1orKbtQP2-Zn0L2JDDy...
[12:30pm] gdemet: thx!
[12:30pm] Amazon: LevelTen, how would we coordinate putting up those questions and doing other stuff on Facebook?
[12:30pm] LevelTen: We need a central (repository?) that collects what people are saying. I have a Google Alerts search doing that.
[12:31pm] Amazon: What's the tool we're going to use to tell people what content to promote?
[12:31pm] LevelTen: Perhaps a private g.d.o group...
[12:31pm] Shyamala joined the chat room.
[12:31pm] [Speaker]: Perhaps via tweets and a daily email... that's what I've done in the past.
[12:32pm] But we don't want to do it via email.
[12:32pm] [For each announcement.}
[12:32pm] Amazon: I think we need something real-time.
[12:32pm] LevelTen: Facebook would be good for that, but you'd need to set it to private (?).
[12:32pm] [Speaker]: I think we need a central point person.
[12:33pm] Amazon: Colin, will you be the central point person?
[12:34pm] Colin: Yes. Let's try a Facebook group right now, but I recommend that we not have 12 people able to post to it.
[12:34pm] Amazon: I don't think we can avoid that.
[12:35pm] Co-tweet would be good. "Tout Tweet" (?) is also good. ALso works with LinkedIn and Facebook.
[12:35pm] karschsp: hootsuite
[12:35pm] [Megan made the suggestions.]
[12:36pm] George: To repeat what Megan said: We have an editorial calendar that we're keeping in a document. We'll share the info with people who are posting from other accounts.
[12:36pm] Megan: We'll sharing the editorial calendar, but first we're working it all out on our end.
[12:37pm] George [?]: Colin, could you put together an editorial calendar? What tools would you need?
[12:37pm] gdemet: that's Meghan Butler, not to be confused with Megan Sanicki
[12:37pm] Colin: Sure, maybe for open-ended questions.
[12:37pm] But other stuff doesn't fit into an editorial calendar well.
[12:38pm] Let's make Colin the central point person. We need some tool so everybody knows how to get a message to him.
[12:38pm] How about a Google Spreadsheet?
[12:38pm] Colin: Works for me.
[12:39pm] Amazon: We'll do that. Let me know if you want to be part of the process.
[12:39pm] Examples of stuff that'd be good: WordPress community "congrats", responding with an invitation to come to our parties.
[12:40pm] There are about a dozen people who have access to the Twitter account. We need coordination so we have agreement of what to post there, and so we don't have duplication.
[12:40pm] webchick: For those who don't know me, that was, in fact, a joke.
[12:40pm] webchick: I <3 wordpress. they're open source and keep us on our toes.
[12:40pm] [Speaker]: Promote http://d7blue.me/
[12:40pm] • karschsp puts away the food poisoning materials
[12:40pm] webchick: LOL
[12:41pm] (Where you can make your profile picture blue, like Tobias Fünke.]
[12:41pm] webchick: nice! with ümlauts and everything
[12:42pm] Amazon: That looks fun! Any concerns?
[12:42pm] webchick: I think it's cool, other than some people think that "blueing" isn't funny. I think it's hilarious.
[12:43pm] Amazon: Thanks, Tom and Colin.
[12:43pm] gentth left the chat room. ("Leaving")
[12:43pm] Is Bryan or Steve on the phone?
[12:43pm] Steve: Yes.
[12:43pm] Amazon: Homepage update?
[12:44pm] Steve: We had a discussion about the most important content we want to direct people to, then Bryan edited the panels and added links. That's where we left it for now.
[12:44pm] [Silence]
[12:44pm] Amazon: Is there anything that should be on that front page?
[12:45pm] tgeller: What about the 10th anniversary?
[12:45pm] Steve: We talk about it in the press release, and we see Drupalcon Chicago as sort of a 10th birthday party.
[12:45pm] Lisa (?): We're really promoting Drupalcon that way.
[12:46pm] Shyamala: Drupal 7 banner on this page
[12:46pm] Amazon: Mailings and media lists. Lori, can you give us an update? Are we doing targeted mailings to your press people?
[12:46pm] Lori: [audio broke up]
[12:46pm] Shyamala: Should we have a Drupal 7 banner on the Drupal marketing page
[12:47pm] Lori: I have a pretty comprehensive list broken up by bus. app. publications, analysts, etc.. I suggest we put in the Subject line, "Drupal 7 now available", then drop the press release into the body of the email.
[12:47pm] Pann: You're not doing any phone outreach first?
[12:48pm] Lori: I was hoping that Pann could do that.
[12:48pm] Pann: We're focused on Drupalcon, not Drupal 7.
[12:49pm] Jeremy Gielen of Web 2.0 Journal wants an interview with Dries.
[12:49pm] webchick: Ha. "Ambassador of Buzz"
[12:49pm] Lori: Interview requests should be sent to me. I'm the Ambassador of Buzz for Acquia. I've fielded internetnews.com and (Indian pub) interview requests.
[12:49pm] webchick: help!
[12:49pm] webchick: tryng to find my mute button.
[12:49pm] [speaker]: To raise visibility of the diversity of our community, I'd also like to offer up Angie as well.
[12:50pm] webchick: but yes
[12:50pm] webchick: I only check email once a day, so try me on IRC.
[12:50pm] Amazon: Do we need a central thing about where the interview requests are coming from?
[12:51pm] [Speaker]: I think Pann has that well-covered, at least surrounding DrupalCon.
[12:51pm] Amazon: But D7 release?
[12:51pm] criz joined the chat room.
[12:52pm] Lori (?): Part of our pitch to get people to DrupalCon includes telling people about D7.
[12:52pm] We're also leveraging the Chicago press as well.
[12:53pm] Amazon: What else can we do?
[12:53pm] Lori (?): I've been doing outreach to the Boston press to get them to the D7 release party. But we need to do that on a nat'l/int'l level.
[12:53pm] Pann: We'll coordinate with you so we don't have the wrong type of overlap.
[12:54pm] Lori: Is "Drupal Down Under" being leveraged for coverage? Jan 23, with Dries keynoting.
[12:54pm] Lori: We'll hit int'l press for a world tour that Dries is going on, starting with DDU.
[12:54pm] Lori: But we don't want to confuse messages. We'll focus on things as they get close. Right now we need to focus on D7.
[12:55pm] [speaker] DrupalCon will have a presence at DDU.
[12:55pm] Amazon: Lori and Pann, could you arrange a call to coordinate?
[12:55pm] Lori: Pann, please send me your list.
[12:56pm] Amazon: Next is to update the party guide. Susan couldn't be here, but I'd like a post to go out Thursday night/Fri morning. We now have over 90 countries, 263 parties. Interesting opportunity to train party-holders how to coordinate together.
[12:56pm] Same hashtags, centralized Flickr stream, LinkedIn/Facebook/Twitter to promote things.
[12:56pm] Anybody have ideas?
[12:57pm] Amazon: "This is a transcending Drupal moment". [ooo!]
[12:57pm] webchick (?): Someone talked about youStream (sp?)... I don't know.
[12:57pm] [Speaker]: We hope that folks holding these parties will take part in the "Drupal is Everywhere" thing.
[12:57pm] We need someone to get in touch with the webmaster of http://www.drupal7releaseparty.org .
[12:57pm] (Baris?)
[12:58pm] [All-karaoke!]
[12:58pm] [Jinx!]
[12:58pm] [Nevermind.]
[12:58pm] Amazon: LevelTen, could you weigh in on how to promote the parties via social media? And coordinate with Baris to get a release out Thursday night?
[12:59pm] [Speaker]: I think the release has to go out earlier than Thursday night.
[12:59pm] Amazon: The purpose is not to get people to set up parties, but to help coordinate people who have already done so. Earlier is better, but...
[1:00pm] Colin: Flickr, #d7rp recommended.
[1:00pm] webchick: http://drupal.org/node/1016076
[1:00pm] gdemet: http://www.flickr.com/groups/drupaleverywhere/
[1:00pm] Shyamala: It's good to start a new photo stream with that tag. [bad audio.]
[1:00pm] Shyamala: Request them to start titles with D7RP: on both Ustream and Youtubes while posting videos and tag them with #d7rp as well.
[1:01pm] Amazon: Tom, what about prizes?
[1:01pm] Shyamala: We could add a nice Background to our Twitter Page
[1:01pm] Tom: Maybe books and such.
[1:01pm] Tom: Get an inventory of what we have for stuff to give out, sort of like an on-air radio DJ.
[1:02pm] Amazon: I'll check my mail.
[1:02pm] Amazon: Other recommendations around the D7 party guide?
[1:02pm] criz: I have already started a #d7rp flickr group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/d7rp/
[1:03pm] sxren left the chat room. (Quit: sxren)
[1:03pm] [Speaker]: Build local PR kits task, we didn't really get to it. Anyone have a passion with it to work with translators and work with local groups?
[1:03pm] There's a group of Europeans willing to help.
[1:03pm] No?
[1:04pm] [Speaker]: I asked Greg to put country stats in with the contributor statistics, but apparently it's really hard.
[1:04pm] Amazon: Moving on to changing the front page of d.o.. Is Neil Drumm around? [no -- also not on IRC.]
[1:05pm] webchick: http://drupal.org/node/1016076
[1:05pm] webchick: Making the banner will probably work.
[1:05pm] (See link)
[1:05pm] That should be acceptable to Neil, but he doesn't want to replace the whole home page.
[1:05pm] webchick: I'll coordinate that.
[1:06pm] Amazon: Any other questions?
[1:07pm] One last request: If you're interested and haven't spoken up, there's a lot of little basic stuff we need help with. You don't need special skills. So if you can, we can use some help over the next couple of days.
[1:07pm] Next call: This Friday, focused on the release parties.
[1:08pm] webchick: We can't do it this time on Friday because of a board meeting. But maybe an hour later?
[1:08pm] Amazon: I'd rather go earlier.
[1:08pm] [coordination]
[1:09pm] Iztok left the chat room.
[1:09pm] Amazon: We'll try to go earlier. I'll post about it. (8am -- which time zone? Pacific, probably.)
[1:10pm] Amazon: Thanks to all, I'll post an update to the agenda. Congratulations!
[1:11pm] [repeated all around]
