Looking for opinions on 3rd party ad serving systems. Our current service (Burst Media AdConductor) was inherited from earlier development efforts and I'd like to compare it against other systems popular with media sites. Anybody have any relevant insight and or good experiences with a particular system? Thanks.

Doesn't OpenX have decent
Doesn't OpenX have decent integration with Drupal out of the box?
I would look at that one for sure.

Still looking for insight on ad serving systems
Most interested in peoples experience with ad-serving services re: details of the ad-management model and qualities of the UI that might allow less technical ad-sales staff to directly manage deployed ad campaigns. Thanks.
We integrated OpenX with Banner Module
Quite a while back we hacked the old Banner module so that we could deliver OpenX Invocation Code based on Drupal Taxonomy.
It's old and in rough shape and we really do need to go back and rework it, so we haven't added it back to the community.
But it pretty much works for now: You create Banner blocks in Drupal, drop in the Invocation Code, tell it what sections (Taxonomy) you want the ads to show up on and then you make sure the block it where you want it.
We haven't worked in OpenX's Single page call yet, but that also may help things along.
OpenX
We've been using OpenX for years. We're getting ready to launch our new site based on Drupal as well and will used OpenX. If you have specific questions about it let me know here or email me and I will do my best to answer them. Our systems is based on Drupal 5. At the time of development key modules were not yet available on Drupal 6.
Need insight re: 3rd-party ad-serving, not open source framework
I realize OpenX is an attractive open source alternative to fee-based 3rd-party ad-serving systems, and I do appreciate folks comments here offering their insights. However, for our needs ad-serving is sufficiently complex that we want and need the deeper intrinsic expertise and support offered by the commercial solutions. That's not a slight against OpenX or open source in general - if our goal were to build an ad-serving solution or business, OpenX would be a great platform to start with. But our goal here is to select and integrate a system as a service consumer - i.e. a service that offers expert advice, training, support, customization, etc.
If anybody can offer hands-on experience with systems like DoubleClick, InterClick, RightMedia, BurstMedia, BlueLithium, AdButler, etc., we would be grateful for your insights.
Thanks.
chipk, As mentioned above,
chipk,
As mentioned above, we have integrated OpenX with our Drupal system and it works quite well.
However, similarly to you, we have had requests to look at other enterprise-grade ad server systems for reasons such as forecasting, billing systems integration, more sophisticated ad delivery options and just to match ad agency expectations.
I do however think that, no matter what the ad server solution, we will be using a similar method to the one we currently use to integrate ad 'zones' into Drupal.
That said, I'd be happy to share any info I discover as I research some ad solutions.

Thanks Geoff - would very
Thanks Geoff - would very much appreciate any insights you gather. I have gotten some trusted advice that DoubleClick's "DART For Publishers" (aka DFP) should be high on any list to consider.

Other options
From my experience on both the publisher and the agency side, I recommend checking out Open AdStream (OAS) and Atlas.
Atlas Publisher Suite
The typical publisher that Atlas works with are those serving upwards of 200M impressions per month. We are not in their league.
Google Adsense?
We use Google Adsense at the papers I work for.
All of the ad management is handled at google.com/admanager, you just need to put the code snippets in the proper places (The "hey google adsense" snippet is in the template, and the "slots" in blocks).
The benefit of Adsense is that "unsold" inventory is filled with Adsense ads (text, image, or both) for a little extra revenue.

We are using the Durpal Advertisement module. How could I benefit by switching to OpenX?

Benefits of switching to OpenX
Shyamala,
We have been using OpenX for years, even prior to us switching to Drupal. So, unfortunately I don't have experience with the Advertisement module and don't want to disparage it.
But, our reasons for using it are similar to the reasons we use Drupal as a CMS: A strong open-source community that has gone from strength-to-strength gathering users along the way. OpenX reports 35,000 total publishers that power more than 150,000 websites.
Having that sort of presence to me suggests that the product should, if nothing else, see features being added quickly, bugs and security issues seeing more scrutiny and a bigger forum to get feedback and answers.
That's my $0.02 on it.

opex manager module for drupal 7 - required help
Hi Geoff,
Am new to openx, I'm using drupal 7 and I have tried to get the module "openx manager" for drupal 7. I din't get it yet.
Is there any alternative for the openx manager or how to convert the openx manager (for drupal 6) to drupal 7
Please help me.
what did you finally settle with?
I am looking at an adserver solution now as well. For two days now, I have been experimenting with the Selfhosted, and hosted versions of OX. There is one very major problem I see with OX so far: There is no Self service kind of system that would allow advertisers to self-fund their Banner adds. I am also thinking that there is no way to automatically turn an account off if its account runs over.
I also get the sense that OX want users to use their market place first and foremost.
I have tried to get some feedback, but not much help so far. About your comment about an open source API to extend OX... I looked and can not find any extensions.
