Good idea for a website. I'm sure with the plethora of cuts being made in the industry, that there's a use for a venue where production managers can exchange ideas. But which of us has time to create that venue with all the staff reductions?
The idea has crossed my mind on a number of occasions about documenting a lot of the things that I've done because a lot of them utilize Open Source software in order to save money.
Anything in particular you were looking for?
Anything particular? Yes, Digital Proofing - Is it possible yet?
One of the expenses we're looking at is the toner & other printer consumables. We're considering soft proofing. Is anyone doing that successfully?

Softproofing
Not sure if you mean soft-proofing of pages rather than print color hard copies or simply eliminating paper proofs of advertisements. We haven't totally eliminated the paper proofs of ads, but did bodge together a system for semi-automating sending PDFs of the ads to the sales rep that they can forward on to their client.
Used a variety of technologies to make things work...AppleScript for automating QuarkXPress, Acrobat and/or Ghostscript for PDF generation, PHP/Perl/Bash for scripting emailing the ads to the sales rep.
