We have commited the final decision at http://drupalcamp.de/ and decided, not to write a proposal for a DrupalCon 2009, but to support Maastricht with activities.
We will achieve this in the form of manpower at the spot but also with our previous requests for http://drupalcamp.de/sponsoren and sponsors with whom we have so far only in discussion.
The decision to support Maastricht is from the proximity and the already advanced state of planning of
http://groups.drupal.org/drupalcon-maastricht-2009 arisen, where we wanted no further internal community competition.
In the case, difficulties may arise, we will support also as a fallback solution.
We therefore aim DE DrupalCon for 2010 and devote ourselves in the meantime, the structure of http://www.drupal-initiative.de/ and planning and implementation of http://drupalcamp.de/, as well as consolidate and strengthen German-speaking community at the virtual base.
Details can be discussed internally. Hopefully this offer will be a well solution.
The same is valid for http://groups.drupal.org/drupalcon-paris-2009!

Great news.
We're proud to have you on board! The drupalcamp.de was well organized, and we're happy to have all that extra knowledge on board for the kickoff of the next drupalcon in maastricht.
This also shows that Maastricht really is THE place to be for Belgium, Netherlands and Germany :0

I'm sure it will rock!
Why? Cause Drupal rocks!
As far as I know you have to write the proposal this weekend. On any questions do not hesitate to contact one of us.
Currently in our operational team:
Maastricht OR Paris
We'll be supporting whomever wins the Drupalcon bid. We're not trying to give Maastricht an advantage over Paris - it's just that Maastricht has been more visible in it's preparations. The Drupal Association still has to decide who is doing DrupalCon. No matter who does it, the Germans will be there to help!
Sure, we will support Paris too :)
That's not the question!
But since driving from Cologne to Maastricht is just an hour with car, it's much more easier.
DA will decide and we will be volunteers for both locations.
As I checked G.D.O start of December for an existing Paris-DruCon-Group last time, I didn't recognize, that there has grown one in the meantime. Sorry, but I was to busy with the CGN Camp.
Just wanted to make sure there was no confusion
... because the last thing we want is all of the Parisians mad at us :-)
you've got that right :)
you've got that right :)
really, /me too

Support all around...
We of course, in Paris will be more then happy to help Maastricht if it wins to get the best EuroDrupalCon possible. According to google Maastricht is jut a short walk away.
but then we will need to stock up on the amphetamines (they don't really factor in sleeping).
Well it is 4 hours away (by train, plain or car as far as I know) but then again many of us were happy to go to Szeged which is a bit further away...
As soon as there is a decision on the city we will really be happy to see how we can help to support the organization of the con wherever it is, I believe there will be a big showing of the French community and many people willing to chip in.
Meeting at FOSDEM?
Anyone interested in a DrupalCon-EU meeting at http://www.fosdem.org/2009/ (7th or 8th of February 2009)?
See you there!
Just found out that we'll have a whole Dev room for us: http://www.fosdem.org/2009/schedule/devrooms/drupal
I have neither been to Maastricht nor Paris yet so both citys should have the Drupalcon some time cause I'd love to go to both places.
the maastricht organizers
the maastricht organizers will definitely meet at fosdem the 8th. for a general drupalcon chat meet us at saturday the 7th for a abbey beer at the monk : http://groups.drupal.org/node/17926
yes but
yes: eurocon meeting = a good idea but we need a separate meeting for maastricht as well, to discuss urgent organizational matters. let's see what is possible
Parisians
I am quite sure Joeri Poesen from the French organizing team will be there and maybe others. Some of us could not come for the whole event so it would be great if a specific date could be set-up (I for one will make the effort to do the roundtrip).
Ori
agenda
Let's just set up a clear agenda for the meeting(s).
For every agenda item we could flag it as EU/NL/FR.
I'm sure that most discussions are not not NL/FR specific so we could benefit from
everyone's contributions.
The geographic specific items (venue, transport, ..) could be moved to the end of the meeting where we might decide to split the meeting in two parts.
