User group meeting
We were thinking that it would be nice to have the next meetup aimed at beginners. We'll plan to cover material for drupal novices and answer basic questions about what drupal is and why we love it. We'll do some basic site building and show you how to install drupal. If we get a lot of intermediate folks we'll split into groups and cover some more advanced site building. Also, the floor is open so if you have some material to present to the intermediate/advanced group please come ready to show it off. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

That's a great idea! Please let me know if this ends up being the plan. I was just talking to another journalist who works on a drupal-based site this week, and was telling him he should check out the meetup group. There's a huge potential audience for something that gives more of a beginner look, especially if it's targeted at an audience beyond developers, such as site adminsitrators, content providers, intermediate users. Very happy to help plan this and spread the word.

Let's commit to it. The next meetup will be beginner focused. Bring questions and a brain ready to learn. Thursday Dec 1 at Zivtech's office (32 Strawberry st in Philadelphia). Pizza and libations will be provided but some extra six-packs are always appreciated.

Propose moving the meetup day
Hey all- I'd like to propose that we move from "first thursdays" to "second Tuesdays", starting with the upcoming meetup (so, moving it to Dec 12th). The main reason for this proposed change is that we are going head-to-head with the Philly Tech Meetup, and I think we'll lose a lot of people if we try to compete with the big general meetup (I for one want to attend it). I don't see any competing meetups on 2nd Tuesdays, so if there are no objections, I'd like to suggest we move our meetup. If not for the upcoming meetup, then definitely in January.

And yes, we are scheduling things to present as well. I was thinking about showing how to rearrange drupal forms using panels, and I was hoping someone could show off some more UI goodies, like editablefields, beautytips, and draggable views.

The Python Users Group has been meeting on 2nd Tuesday the past few months, but not sure that is set in stone.
I'm still interested in a beginner-oriented session, and told several people about the Dec 1 date already. Busy time of year though so not sure if people were going to make it Dec 1 or otherwise.
So does the Ruby group
PhillyPUG always meets on the second Tuesday

It was (perhaps my mistaken) understanding that Philly Tech met on the third Wednesday

Maybe Philly Tech just moved for December? I'm not sure I care about either Ruby or Python users, as I've met very few of them at Drupal/PHP events, but I'm definitely open to other nights.
We definitely need to move it off of Thursday starting in January do to cleaning schedules at our office.
