y0! :)

I am currently setting up a project for a local newspaper here in Norway. It's a small village with almost 16000 people. The site has been online since 2002 and is currently running on a microsoft access database. Although the village is small the site had over 21000 unique visitors last year and a page view average at 530 000 each month. The owner of the site contacted me regarding issues with the site's database and the self made cms. I told him about my drupal experience, showed him some examples drupalsites and possibilities with drupal. He was really impressed, despite that, I had to tell him that I had never built a newspaper site before and that I might meet some difficulties. Anyway with a migration to drupal they want to use features like users, comments, categories etc. on the site.

So, in my christmas holliday (2008) I managed to export all of the sites articles, from msaccess and imported them to mysql. Just the archive impressed the owner so much that he gave me a hug (haha). It's a funny thing but the site had only one category and all the content was within "news", the author even have to fill in his name and date in the body field when he submits a new post. I guess they never thought it would be this popular when they created it 6 yeas ago.

My biggest challange is images. I am using imagecache and cck.
The imagesize of the top story teaser actually. This teaser will be shown in two different ways right? when it has the status "top story/last story" and when it is replaced by a new top story.

How would you or how do you solve this?

Tnx!

So I managed to create a basic newspaper layout. Top story and articles with different picture sizes using cck, imagecache and views. I have never used the "offset" setting in views before, the option was really helpful on listing news articles. I have one big problem regarding this though.

If the top story should stay on top, let's say, for a whole day, but other news should be published and listed in the next grid, I thought the offset setting would be the solution. If I create a new topstory, the old top story should be listed in the grid containing regular stories, this works because I have set the offset to 1. I tought I was a genius, but when I then add a regular story, it will not show up because of the offset 1 setting.

How do you solve this? I am using panels to lay out the stories. The panels layout with one header section (last top story) and two colums, left side for regular news.

I did not get any response @ drupal.org so I hope any of you could give me a hint? :-/

(is this to easy?)

anyways
