CJOnline.com moving to Drupal

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I posted a brief announcement of http://beta.cjonline.com/ to the main Drupal site's showcase forum:

http://drupal.org/node/390118

We anticipate replacing www.cjonline.com with the new site Thursday, if all goes well.

We'll need to do a more thorough writeup soon explaining what we're learning as we move all of our newspapers to Drupal.

This is excellent work. Can't wait for your writeup, it will be invaluable to the community!

Also, just thought i'd let you know, there are problems with the frontpage on both firefox 3.0.6 and IE7 on windows.

On firefox, for the first 15 seconds the website looks slightly strange. Look at this screenshot http://i43.tinypic.com/206d91j.png. It does however correct after 15 seconds. But that might be 15 seconds too long. (It seems to be waiting for something from (spotted.cjonline.com)

A similar problem with IE7, the front page does not load up properly for 23 seconds or so. See this screenshot http://i39.tinypic.com/2nui248.jpg.

Other pages show up fine, so it seems like just a frontpage problem.

Good luck with the launch!

Rendering quirks

It's an oddity with rendering of embedded tables. The page itself uses CSS positioning, but I think the panels were switched to tables at the last minute due to some aggravating cross-browser issues (in my perfect world, IE6 would be burned at the stake). Being worked on, AFAIK.

great site. would you like to let me know how

Modules

yelvington's picture

Sections are based on the core taxonomy module.

Nearly all the clusters of links are produced by http://drupal.org/project/views. Homepage and section fronts are created with http://drupal.org/project/panels. Section fronts are Panels-based overrides of taxonomy pages. See http://www.flickr.com/photos/yelvington/5179001196/
