Getting Started

Hi, I'm a brand new guy, just getting his first look at Drupal. There are some things I am wondering about.

I am designing a website for a community newspaper, a daily, and am interested in Drupal as a CMS solution. Our site has the following feaures, or will have in the near future...

About 12 news categories including local news, sports, entertainment, blogs, etc...
About 50 subcategories. For example news -> World News
Classifieds
Photo Galleries
Social Networking, commenting on stories, etc.
Reader Blogging
Video blogs
Paid premium content

Would Drupal be a fit for what I'm trying to do here? Also, does Drupal have any sort of module which allows me to control banner and skyscraper advertising?

Sorry for the rookie questions here, I'm trying to get a feel for what this CMS does and doesn't do. Since I'm on a limited time frame, I don't want to waste time tinkering with a CMS that won't fit the needs of a daily paper, but if this one does, I'm ready to plunge in and get a look at the guts.

there are several advertising modules for drupal but you can also get ads from google and other providers...
i have just finished working on a news site similar to what you think about. Its fairly simple, but just a tip :
before you post questions search the forum on drupal.org! i found answers to 95% of all my questions in the forum...
