Hello wonderful members of the Drupal Documentation Team!
Remember last fall, when we went through an amazing process of discussion and refinement for the Community Docs redesign? Putting aside what happened immediately afterwards (how long it took to get it actually deployed), do you remember how great it was when it was deployed finally? If not, take a look at a Community Documentation page, such as:
http://drupal.org/documentation/modules/dashboard
and remind yourself of the friendly "You can edit this page" link, the list of recent editors, the sidebar meta-data, and the fact that even though the page has images, it can be edited by anyone (actually I just unlocked that page). :)
So... there have been some changes in infrastructure processes recently, and I've been assured that the deployment delay we experienced on the previous effort won't happen again. And I'd like to get the Docs Team Energy revved up again, so we can work on some more improvements. Your thoughts are solicited on the following:
- Navigation - This was a big item that we postponed last year: is there something we can do to improve the navigation sidebar for Community Docs pages?
- Follow-ups compendium - This is a list of improvements that were proposed during last year's re-design, and postponed. Which ones should we look into further, and which ones should we just let fade away?
- Talk module - This is about whether we should be using the Talk module for comments
- Other issues with the docs infrastructure tag - Search for other issues of interest
Let's get to work on these ideas!
p.s.: This is just the first (or maybe the second) step in a plan I have to really improve things with Documentation in Drupal... I'll be posting more about that soon (probably in the quarterly What's Up With Docs post that will go into the drupal.org front page news).

More on new d.o improvements process...
I mentioned in the post above that there are some new processes in place for getting improvements onto drupal.org. The changes:
I'm hopeful that this will us the tools we need to get things deployed on Drupal.org, once we've figured out what we want to get deployed. In the past couple of weeks, as a test (and because they needed to get done!), I've worked out several small docs-related improvements, and most of them are already live... so I really do think this is going to work out well. Go Neil, and rock the docs!

About the curated docs...
And one other thing to mention. I'd really like to get the "curated docs" site we've been talking about built this summer. But we can't do Curated Docs without an interested Docs Team. I realize our energy got sapped by what happened last year, and I need to find out if we can get going again.
So please, if you are at all interested in improving Drupal Documentation, or in the Curated Docs specifically, make an effort to make sure I know that you are. Ways to show interest:
- Show up at the weekly Docs Office Hours (they've been pretty quiet recently).
- Ping me in the #drupal-docs IRC channel and let me know your interest (that's been pretty quiet recently).
- Comment here (I haven't seen many people posting in our groups.drupal.org group recently).
- Participate in the issues linked at the top of this page (aside from a couple of people, I haven't seen much activity in the docs issue queue lately either; specifically those infrastructure issues).
The thing is... I could build the Curated Docs site myself (or with the help of a couple of people who have approached me lately to help), but if we don't have a reasonable cross-section of the Docs Team committed to testing the new system's infrastructure, writing the new docs, and keeping it maintained going forward, it won't succeed.

Curated moving forward...
It seems that we have some people still interested in Drupal documentation (yeah!), and also we may be able to have a Google Summer of Code student working on building the infrastructure for Curated Docs this summer (yeah!). So... plans are moving forward...

Speaking of plans...
I just posted the quarterly Docs Update to the front page of Drupal.org:
http://drupal.org/node/1508496
There's a small section in there about infrastructure... including the curated docs. :)
