Why is there no DrupalCamp Austin 2012?
DrupalCamp Austin is usually held in the Fall, around October or November. This year, we had to re-think our usual date in light of new events coming to our city. Instead of fully cancelling the event, or holding our usual event at a time when there will be no hotel rooms available for anyone wanting to attend; we decided to move our event slightly earlier in the year, and having a shorter, one-day event for you, for free.

The Formula One problem
I think by this:

Aaron must referring to the fact that Formula One racing will be invading our fine City.

That's exactly right. The only weekend the AT&T center (our preferred venue) had open in Fall 2012 was F1 weekend. Which, when Motel 8 Rooms in San Marcos are going for $500/night, it's not a good time for an event.
As long as there is parking
I've recently moved to Fredericksburg. The Austin DUG seems the closest active group to me. I hope there is parking at this event, as I am planning to drive the 1.5 hrs to meet y'all.
Metered street parking is limited
Metered street parking is limited to 3 hrs, your best bet is a lot or garage. The Omni (bldg Capitol Factory is in) has parking underground for ~$24/day or there are plenty of other options http://map.parkme.com?lat=30.26829246033225&lng=-97.74025919629513&zoom=18 (adjust length of stay and entry time to get a better idea of total cost)

Parking info
We will be releasing some more information about the parking situation shortly. But basically, the event will be downtown (7th and San Jacinto) and attendees will be responsible for paying for their own parking.
We will try to provide a map in advance that includes nearby parking lots and parking garages. The cost should be no more than $10 for the day. But hey, the event is free!
