Hi All,
I have just enabled blogging on my D6 site for all registered users who have begun posting. However, as this has started to grow, I have a few issues

1) All approved users can currently create a blog, however is there a way I can have all blog posts go to an approval que (similar to what happens with comments) before they appear on the site? Id love to hear how others control this aspect on their newspaper sites

2) I used a custom PHP snippet to display a list of all user blogs but have since come accross the Advanced Blog Module. Can anyone recommend other good modules for user generated content

3) If I was to set up this feature again, I would probably create a new CCK type, and control that rather than use the default blog module. Can anyone advise on the advantages / disadvantages of that.

One solution

I had a similar situation, and what I did was change the "default publishing options" to NOT published, then you give admins the right to publish and unpublish content but not regular users.

Then, to go through the queue just go to admin/content/node and search for unpublished content.

I don't personally see how a new CCK would give you any more granular control over posting, but instead I'd recommend Taxonomy Access Control depending on your workflow. For example, I had all user able to create content as in the "draft" category, but only more advanced users could bump it up to "edited" or "needs more review." It requires a bit of tweaking and playing around to get it to fit your needs, but I found that one of the most versatile tools in terms of project flow.

Hope that helps!

Hope it was helpful!

I recently attended a local Drupal meetup, and had a similar question asking what people were doing these days.

Many groups were using CCK + http://drupal.org/project/workflow, which people spoke very highly of. Haven't given it a try yet myself, but probably will with my latest projects.

I believe that making the content type unpublished by default, is a better strategy over using workflow module, when all you have to do is to moderate the post and publish it.
You can use action and trigger to delete posts which contains abusive words. This will be automatic process

Beware backfire

You may find that pre-approving all blog posts results in nobody wanting to use your site. People have short attention spans, little patience, and like immediate feedback.

In addition, you should discuss with a competent media lawyer the liability implications of premoderation so that you do not inadvertently lose any safe-harbor protections and obtain liability for the posts of your users. I don't know how this works in the UK.

We don't require pre-approval anywhere, and we have had very little trouble, but in situations where we have strong concerns about user behavior, we use role-based access controls and make people apply for permission to become community bloggers. That way we can easily revoke blogging permissions if someone proves to be an ass.
