After much work, study and research and testing, the Spark team has arrived at the latest iteration on edit-in-place. We think is a big improvement on the interaction pattern, but we want feedback from the usability group before we push it to the issue.
The prototype is currently in Invision and can be viewed here: http://invis.io/FVB89STC *
Since I posted the invision above Prestonso and I have built an HTML version also which is more up-to-date with design and demonstrates the interactions with some fancy javascript. It's here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/g6mcyc6gbj7ty10/SGZ5vgtD2A

*Some notes on the invision prototype. As always with invision this is just a series of images strung together with hot spots, so there's no code or logic and the flow is pretty linear. If you find yourself at a dead end, just use you back button. There are also no transitions or hover effects (Preston and I are finishing up an html version that's more complete)
The functionality we are looking at is in the node (the main story). If you're unsure what's clickable and what's not hold the shift key to see all the hot spots.
You can comment in the invision or here, but I recommend here because the invision comments will not be part of the history of this project.

Usability Testing Results
Hello all,
I conducted a usability test on Spark Inline (on a re-iterated design) and have posted the results in the issue queue. http://drupal.org/node/1678002#comment-7288768

where is the features list
where are the features list of edit-in-place, I want to review. I pointed out a bug in DrupalCon Munich last year as it saves empty title during edit in place.
