Drupal n'Go - Site Recipes

Recently the Irish Drupal community helped three Irish non-profits as part of a Drupal n'Go challenge. It was a great weekend and at the end of the event, we had three fantastic new websites. You can read more about the event at Drupal community hits Galway and helps three Irish charities.

For those of you who are interested in how the sites were constructed, I've put together the following "site recipes".

VPS tuning advice

Hi all,
I'm running a zen Based VPS at blacknight with some, relatively speaking, low traffic sites.

I upgraded one of those sites to Drupal 6 this morning, and now the server seems to have gone haywire.

I'd appreciate any advice as to how to recover the situation.

One of the sites is www.athenryac.com, and judging from the browser, a connection is being made to the server,
and it is is either extremely slow, or just times out.
Even ssh access is very slow.

The server is running Ubuntu 8.4.01
Php 5
with APC installed.
Mysql 5.

Phpinfo, and my.cnf pasted below.

RDF in core code sprint

Start:
2009-05-11 10:00 - 2009-05-14 17:00 UTC
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

There are only a few months left before the code freeze on September 1st. Now that Fields API has settled in core, it's time to extend it with some RDF semantics. DERI Galway is hosting an RDF in Drupal code sprint during the week of May 11th until May 14th.

Goals of the code sprint

The RDF code sprint will focus on Drupal core and aim at integrating RDF semantics in it.

  1. Extend Fields API to integrate RDF mappings for each field instance. The semantics of a field can differ from a bundle to another. This can be stored either in the existing settings property or by adding a rdf_mappings property to the Field Instance objects.
  2. Modify the Fields UI (contrib) to allow RDF mappings editing.
  3. Define the appropriate mappings for the core modules, based on the RDF core mapping proposal.
  4. Patch core modules with the mappings defined above.
  5. Export these mappings in RDFa via the theme layer and keep it as generic as possible in order to ease the work of the themers.
  6. Write tests for RDF in core.
  7. Identify other non-fieldable entities in core which could benefit from being RDF-ized, and see how to annotate them. Comment is one example. Terms also, though they might become fieldable.
  8. RSS 1 (RDF) in core. Arto volunteered to get started with that.

I've included a pdf of the view with some comments but I'm hoping the group will be able to tell me how to

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 20971520 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 42 bytes) in /home/virtual/irlgov.info/public_html/drupal/includes/database.mysqli.inc on line 162

I have only got 20m available in the php.ini file. Low cost ISP cant offer more space. Bar changing ISP is there a quick fix?

We had a great response to our Drupal n'Go competition from charities, not-for-profits and voluntary groups all across Ireland. We received almost 50 applications, each of which was a particularly compelling case, with urgent needs, which made it a difficult decision to make.

However, we're pleased to announce that the two lucky winners are:

Forms in Drupal

Can someone recommend a 'form' block. I'm looking for something more complex that the contact form which allows me to create a number of fields for the user to fill (some compulsory) - results to be stored in a database and email sent both to user and named contact.

I'm a Drupal newbie. I can do all this in PHP already but I think there must be something suitable in Drupal (searching Drupal sites has not located it - perhaps I'm missing something obvious).

Thanks

Niall

Controlling comments within advanced forum topics

Does anyone know how to control the number of comments displayed within a forum topic on a single page. If say there are more than 15 comments within that topic I want to display the page thread at the bottom, similar to the way you can with views.
I am using Advanced Forum Module - Drupal 6 but cant seem to find an option to do this anywhere via the admin interface. Is there something I am misisng here for my setup?
