As some of you may have heard, I recently got some very good news: My new tech start-up company, Learndipity, was selected as a winner in a global business plan competition. (Yes, the company is built on Drupal 7!) As a prize, I won $40,000, lots of business support and mentorship from entrepreneurs in 42 countries around the world, and free office space in Santiago, Chile. So the big news is that I'm headed to Chile for 7 months beginning in January!
So tonight will be my last Portland Drupal User Group meeting until I return in the Fall of 2012. If you can make it tonight, I'd love to say goodbye to everyone!
Although I will be taking a temporary break from helping organize the Portland Drupal User Group, I'll still be thinking about you guys all the way from Latin America. Jonathan and Melissa will continue co-organizing the group and I look forward to hearing about all of the fantastic speakers and events you'll be having. And of course, you all have an open invitation to come visit me in Chile! :-)
So I hope to see you tonight... I can't wait to fill you guys in on all of the exciting things that have been happening!
Cheers,
Ben Kaplan
i think the webchick works for mi6
Sorry Angela that was a bad joke:)
anyway, by default drupal 7 saves files in the sites/default where Your settings.php. This should not be. Your sites/default folder permissions should be owner - read\execute 500 and Your settings.php should be owner - read 400. You should move saved files to sites or sites/all i am sure it was just an overlook.
Hope everyone has a Great Holiday!

IPv6 in Drupal 8
Making some changes to the drupal core. We want to be able to block users by the IPv6 instead of IPv4 as You may or not know v6 is unique to the device where v4 can be a block of IP's and can block someone who might end up with the IP the next time it is assigned. But can not find the PHP user $GLOBAL to pull the v6 ip can anyone help?
Thanks,
Ran

Greetings!
The last meet up of 2011 is next week. Drupal 7 started off the year and 11 months later we're wrapping up with 5-minute lightning talks featuring your favorite D7 modules.
If you've never presented at user group, this is a great chance! Choose something you've enjoyed using. Nothing is too obvious. With over 2,922 Drupal 7 modules, sharing your personal experience is useful to the group! A laptop (with a mouse :) and projector will be set up for you to use if your talk is Internet-accessible or you can set up your own.
Sign up in the comments or just come prepared!

Drupal Association Grand Opening Party
The Drupal Association recently moved to Portland, Oregon to open a permanent office for its operations worldwide. Although we will continue to have staff and volunteers from around the world we are building a team and an office here in Portland to support Drupal around the world. On December 2nd at 6pm, I'm inviting the Drupal Community to visit your new office.

I have been building a fairly complex D7 site (for me, at least), for a local nonprofit. The site has some Drupal Commerce stuff for membership and classes, and some fairly extensive membership-related functionality, including a variety of membership reports with attached CSV exports, lending library management, member ads, forums, various calendar features, and more.

As always, no formal agenda... just the opportunity to chat, drink, and work in the company of fellow Drupalers. Don't forget to bring your laptop and use the free Wi-Fi. Because AC power is somewhat limited, it's best to charge up your laptop before you come.
We get going at 5:00 p.m., but if your job doesn't permit you to arrive until later, that's fine, too.
So here are the details on November's Brewpal:
Date: Tuesday, November 22
Time: 5:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Drupal 7 Trainings
OpenSourcery, in partnership with Acquia, is hosting two Portland-based Drupal 7 workshops in December:
Drupal 7 in Day (December 5)
Site Building with Drupal 7 (December 6 -7)
Either is is complete on its own, but they combine to make an excellent foundation for site builders and content managers. They're hands-on and suitable for newcomers to Drupal as well as experienced users of earlier versions looking to get familiar with Drupal 7.

Greetings!
Friday, November 18 at 2:00pm I've scheduled a PNWDS retrospective. Organizers and volunteers will be talking about how our community engaged in organizing for the Summit and consider how the user group might be able to better support the process for future local and regional events.
We'll meet in the Cupping Room at the WorldCup on 18th and NW Glisan. Anyone is welcome but space is limited so please sign up here, and I'll find a larger spot if needed.
Note: Recommendations coming out of the retrospective will be presented at the December user group meeting.

buildamodule.com training
I'd like to do a one-day, mentored, video-based training session in Portland and/or Eugene at some point:
I helped as a mentor at the pilot session before BADCamp and it worked really well. Depending on the number of people who sign up, we'd need up to 5 more mentors, ideally with diverse skills so we can help with a variety of questions. If you're willing to volunteer as a mentor, please leave a comment here.
