Front-end meetup - May 2012
This month we're talking CSS preprocessors - specifically Compass/SASS and LESS. Both of these tools can speed up and enhance your CSS development by allowing you to use things like variables and mixins to dynamically generate your code. We'll have presentations on each as well as time for questions and answers.
Meeting location:
Funny Monkey
2410 E Burnside St.
Portland, OR 97232
5-16 Way Out West Meetup
Join us for another "Way Out West" meeting at the Forest Grove Library next Thursday. The topic will be Drush. So, if you are new to Drush, not using Drush or don't know what Drush is, this is the meeting for you.
Using Drush is like letting the genie out of the lamp, only you get unlimited Drupal wishes. (when it comes to building and maintaining your site)
At this meetup, we strive to learn from an help each other. It is worth the drive and you might even meet people that don't attend the PDX meetups.

At May's Portland Drupal User Group meeting, Melissa Anderson and myself will present on Behavior Driven Development (BDD) for Drupal.org. This is a new effort that came out of last week's code sprint to upgrade Drupal.org to D7 to provide a testing framework for Drupal.org that makes sense.

OpenSourcery, in partnership with Acquia, offers two Portland-based Drupal 7 workshops each month:
- Drupal 7 in Day (Monday, May 7 from 9:30am - 5pm)
- Site Building with Drupal 7 (Tuesday and Wednesday, May 8 & 9 from 9:30am - 5pm)
Either is is complete on its own, but they combine to make an excellent foundation for site builders and content managers. They're hands-on and suitable for newcomers to Drupal as well as experienced users of earlier versions looking to get familiar with Drupal 7.
Our Portland-based sessions are guaranteed to run, so attendees can plan knowing that the event will not be rescheduled or canceled based on number of sign ups.

Read moreThoughts on Syndicated Content + Multisites
Hello All -
I am new to the Portland Drupal Group so forgive me if this is not the correct place to put this. I am setting up a Drupal 7 multi-site (sub-directories). I was wondering how possible it was to create a site dedicated solely for shared content (News articles). It wouldn't be accessible from the web, but it would be a one-stop place for users to enter content (a specific content type) that would be reflected throughout all the subsequent multi sites.
Thoughts?
Alex
P.S. they will all share the same database (different table prefixes).

Documenting the DrupalCon PDX planning
Hey everyone - My name is Robert and I was the guy walking around with the camera at the DrupalCon PDX meetup. I'm going to be documenting the planning and meetings leading up to DrupalCon next year, so I thought I'd solicite some feedback from the group as a whole. I shot a short interview with Neil Kent and put it up on our blog:
http://www.metaltoad.com/blog/drupalcon-pdx-2013-kick
Is there any particular content you'd be excited or interested to see... people to interview or get insight from? Your feedback would be appreciated!
Cheers,
Robert

groups.drupal.org - help!
Pretty sure this isn't the place to post this, but am looking for some direction. No matter what, I can't get the groups.drupal.org site to send email to anywhere but the address I signed up with originally. I am changing my email address and have removed any reference to the original email I signed up with from groups.drupal.org and from drupal.org. Why is it still sending email to my old address?

We get going at 5:00 p.m. or so, but people can show up at any time.

Videos of Wednesday PDX DUG meet up?
Hi everyone!
Inspired by word of mouth from the Denver DUG, I'm wondering if we could set up regular videotapings of Wednesdays meet up at OS's offices. I think the community at large would benefit from this, and might make newcomers a little less wary about showing up if they've seen a taping of a meetup! I'm up for offering my vimeo or youtube account to serve this purpose, or we could create a PDX DUG vimeo/YouTube account. I don't have access to a good equipment, however. What do you say? Would anyone be willing to volunteer to take on this kind of task?

We will discuss configuration and use of OG.
Each meeting, the group decides what the following meeting will cover, so if there is something that you would like to discuss at a basic level, join us and we can schedule your topic (if the group agrees) at the next meeting.

DA - Call for Volunteers for DrupalCon Portland!
Thank you to everyone at the Portland Drupal Users Group for having Neil and I present last night. It was great to meet so many Drupal people from the local area and to hear your feedback and awesome experiences from DrupalCon Denver.
Quite a few of you asked for the presentation and materials we used and mentioned during our talk. We're happy to share those here (thanks Amber H. for the nudge!).

I've found the general Drupal group meeting a great place to learn about all things Drupal. From interesting modules, community initiatives, or presentations of sites/projects members have worked on. I've felt that the general group meetings have had to serve a very large audience (and it has done well in doing so) and I've greatly appreciated everyone's honest thoughts and opinions. By no means am I advocating that the general group meeting discontinue nor do am I implying I wouldn't continue to go to such meetings.
