Help with setting permission for a contributor

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

I know that this is a moving target depending on what modules I have installed, but with this in consideration, I can't seem to get the permission right for the "contributor" role on my website.

I've filtered through the permissions setting for the "contributor" role at least 5 times, but can't get it right, also due to the fact that I am not familiar enough with what each permission setting allows.

I want the "contributor" role to only create blogs and articles, which then waits for approval (using the Workflow module) by the editors.

For some reason, whatever I try, still shows the "contributor" all the content types, but in the end, denies them permission to do anything else. I only want them to be able to see what they are able to do and nothing else.

Does anyone have insight into what I need to select?

Thank you.
