Simple Gallery

Overview
I propose to increase the usability of a galleries in Drupal. I would like to make gallery creating and posting more intuitive and a lot easier.

Description:
CMS (including Drupal) are very efficient way how to create sites with a lot of information, different great features and quite easy way how to manage all that. When I create a site with Drupal I often need to make galleries, I have found different ways of creating and managing them but all of them offers so much different features that it is quite hard to configure it to work like a simple gallery. My proposal is to create very simple gallery, that would be very intuitive, with minimum settings (or at least the biggest part of necessary settings should be automatic), and minimum necessary modules.
There are several parts of my proposal :
Galleries should not have their node, instead they should be attached to other nodes (e.g. page with text and gallery in that page)
Create different views for gallery (slider, simple thumbnails, automatic slideshow, random rotation etc.)
View images in full size in in shadowed “pop up”
Administration page for gallery should be easy understandable, intuitive.
Timeline

April 26 – May 24 – Do some research on the specifications, available image and gallery modules, file uploading modules. Contact applicable module maintainers and contributors to discuss the best ways to carry out the tasks,
May 24 – May 31 – Make Administration page with all options and settings.
May 31 – June 21 – Integrate WYSIWYG gallery icon and pop-up window with minimal necessary settings for displaying gallery.
June 21 – June 28 - Modify file uploading, thumbnail creation, gallery displaying in current node.
June 28 – July 12 –Period to improve already written code.
July 12 – Mid-term evaluation.
July 12 – July 22 – Add support for displaying gallery in independent gallery node (make it optional for administrator).
July 22- August 9 – Create “themes” for displaying galleries – e.g. slide-shows, sliders, random rotation... etc.
August 9 – August 16 – Create installation package, improve all written code, check if it all is documented, is easy understandable.
