Hey all!
first of all - helllooo! nice to be here.
I am pretty new to the whole drupal thing (broadening my horizons from flash!).
I've done an install, got some basic modules going, and I've been reading through the documentation.
So i'd like to pose a question - is anyone out there in the group willing to lend some time to get me up and running?
I'm sure happens to most people, I'm finding it hard to apply the concpects (taxonomy, filters, etc) to concrete ideas.
Basically I'm looking for a crash course (few hours of your time) to get some practical ideas going.
I can compensate (not much i'm afraid - 20$/hour)
If this is the wrong place to ask - i sincerely apologize! (and if someone could suggest an alternative place to look for some help, that would also be much appreciated).

I would not call myself a noob either. I would come to this if it were a meetup. I am in the Plateau but can meet wherever.

I would be interested in intermediate level training or "show and tell" type meetup. I would like to learn more on theming and front end design (Panels, Ctools). I can contribute a bit on module construction, hook usage, jQuery ect...

I don't know what I could offer as knowledge sharing, but i've worked a lot with views and i18n.
I also like the methodology point of view (project managing)
I've also got some headache working on CSS to adapt views slideshow such as on the frontpage of http://www.constellio.com and http://www.kiwad.com and kinda proud of the results there.

I would love to attend a group session, even if the level of discussion mostly goes over my head.
If someone who knows the group better can suggest a meeting place and a time?

Just FYI, the Montreal Drupal community has a pretty regular schedule of monthly meetups already. The current group home page layout doesn't really indicate this very well, but I'm sure one will be coming up soon.

I will be at all the Montreal meetups with bells on but I was thinking about this as mini Drupal Dojo sessions.
Koumbit Drupal Training Day
I recently attended a Drupal Training Day put on by Koumbit, which was excellent. There was sufficient interest that I believe more will be scheduled. It was a full day of training at a very reasonable price. Anyone interested in attending the next one can put their name on a waiting list here: http://membres.koumbit.org/en/node/113.
But a full day may be overkill for what you're thinking of. That said, I'm all for increasing the frequency of Drupal meet-ups, or something in parallel, if that works better. For whatever it's worth, I'd be happy to share my knowledge and experience (such as it is).

There are group trainings, meetups, one to one trainings, etc.
There are a lot of ways to learn, teach or even just meet new people.
Usually in our meetups in Montreal, there is one or two presentation from participants, questions and answer about how to do this and that, discussions about events like DrupalCon, etc. All in a friendly environment.
There were also some meetups in cafés and restaurant. Maybe we should do one this summer.
There are organized trainings, one or two teacher in front of a class.
There are one-to-one training, personalized.
Etc.
We are due for a meetup. But I am sure we can also organize a small training session, or better yet, organize a few small group training session with 1 to 3 participants, to keep learning effective and personalized.

I'm not sure what it is you're looking for, but as has already been mentioned you can watch this space for meet-ups and times.
As I mentioned to you personally, Koumbit is working on digesting the outcomes of our last trainings and coming up with some sort of regular Drupal training offering, but in the meantime we can only offer personal trainings at $70-95 an hour.
And of course the excellent Drupal Dojo has tons of how-tos, vidcasts, and other good stuff.
