Hi,
I am a drupal developer for past one year.
My client have asked me to build a news publishing site. I am new to this domain, I have read many forums and found that there are some installation profiles for NEWS publications like openpublish , prosepoint etc,..
I am confused to choose the one, i read this main points of this group and they have listed all the modules, i can build with that, the problem i have is that it needs to be build in a weeks time, so i cant do by that way, i must go for prebuild system.

I have a another issue, the whole site should be in tamil, so please help me out with these things.

I am just now starting to look at OpenPublish and ProsePoint with the intention of making our newspaper site better. I see a lot of testing for these packages prior to making them "live" and I would say that a week would not be enough time for sure. Better (IMHO) to bring up a Drupal 6 install and build on it, with the understanding that the more complicated pieces would be added as time passed.

But I am by no means an expert.

ProsePoint

I looked at ProsePoint and OpenPublish back in January when I was searching for a CMS (content management system) for the daily newspaper where I work. (Our website was badly in need of a far better replacement.)

OpenPublish appeared to be far too complicated for our staff (since many of them were not highly computer literate). So I went with ProsePoint instead. Granted, I added in a lot of modules and heavily restyled the site with CSS. But overall, we have been very pleased with the result.

Great learning resources

We've found the various profiles to be great learning resources -- opportunities to see how someone accomplished a goal using Drupal -- but not necessarily good foundations for building our own sites. Often a profile implements "improvements" in the administrative user interface that aren't standard Drupal practices.

We use the Pressflow version of Drupal (basically core + performance patches). We configured a base install, and rather than writing a profile, we simply clone the base DB every time we bring up a new site.

Our original intent was to create (and release) an installation profile, but it's quite a bit of work and we don't have the resources to do that while also hitting our site building goals. We have released several modules that we developed for our sites.

On an unrelated topic (but this thread reminded me), have you guys got your dayparting module upgraded to D6 yet?

That's a good point. Installing profiles as test sites, to learn from their inner workings.

One- or two-person team

It would have been nice if I'd had the luxury of a team that could have helped me to develop and build a site ... but our "team" ended up being just me, with the addition of one tech on the other side of the country who had Drupal experience who could troubleshoot problems for me. But 99 percent of the work that went into our site was mine and mine alone, and I'm still the only person on the "digital media team" for our newspaper, so I serve as both "digital media designer" and "webmaster."

Thus, ProsePoint ended up being a real blessing. Yeah, I ended up adding a lot of modules and a lot of CSS and building views and modifying settings ... and the aforementioned Drupal tech on the other side of the country had to patch and modify some modules for me ... but I will say this : If you don't have the luxury of a team to build your newspaper site for you, ProsePoint can be a great starting point.
