CrisisCamp Haiti Silicon Valley

CrisisCamp Haiti Silicon Valley is happening this Saturday to bring together volunteers to collaborate on technology projects which aim to assist in Haiti's relief efforts by providing data, information, maps and technical assistance to NGOs, relief agencies and the public. See: http://crisiscamphaitisiliconvalley.eventbrite.com/

I am trying to build out the United Nations' 'SPIDER' platform, as per: http://maps.geography.uc.edu/~cgn/SPIDER_mapping_arch.doc , and can use all the Drupal help I can get. We are overwhelmed and inline with several open source mapping effort now in Haiti...

Simple webmaster / mentor volunteer needed for international theatre group

Hi -

I did some work a while ago for Theatre Without Borders, a group of associated theatre artists promoting theatre and peace around the world.

The site I set up is very simple, Drupal 5 with no customisation (maybe some CSS hacks, but that's it).

Despite the accessibility of the site, the members of the group still have challenges understanding how to use it, and so requests will come through to change a block or a menu (maybe sometimes change a View...)

Group pages reorganized; need your input please

Recently I took on the task of reorganizing and streamlining this group site, with the goal of making it much easier for new and existing volunteers to continue with the drupal.org redesign implementation. There is information on the group site that isn't up-to-date or 100% clear yet, but I think we are fairly close with reorganizing these g.d.o pages. Here are my main changes, and I'd love your feedback.

What information would you need in order to help with the redesign implementation? Please add your comments below.

Mozilla Service Week

I, like many Drupalers (I imagine), maintain a number of sites for non-profits... some for pay, some for free. And I'm in Boston, the non-profit capital of the world (maybe?!) . ANyway, anyone who feels called to service or wants to dip toes in this (perhaps paying, perhaps volunteer) pool of work, I just got notice from Idealist.org that they are organizing a service week with Mozilla. Details below.

******forwarded message ******

Our second heads-up is about Mozilla Service Week.

Idealist is partnering with Mozilla (the organization behind the

Ideas for volunteer schedule for non-profit event

I'm helping with the website for the host committee for AA's 75th anniversary in San Antonio in 2010. The event will require around 5000 volunteers to accommodate the 60,000 recovering drunks hitting the Alamo City next July. The organizers would like for volunteers to be able to sign up for time slots for different jobs.
For example, 60 volunteers are needed for the Tuesday 1pm-3pm Hotel Lobby Greeters slot. Once 60 volunteers sign up, that slot should not be available any more, unless someone drops it.

Newbie Looking for Pro-Bono Projects (Ecommerce?)

I previously was working on an ecommerce site which had much potential for growth. 15 hours into getting the right modules, doing some work in taxonomy and focusing on the functionality of the site...the project got pulled from my docket. So now, I have no idea what kind of thing I can do to continue enriching my Drupal skills. Sadly, I learn best by doing.

Any chance that I might find someone here looking for someone willing to work for low pay or pro-bono, since it is the experience I seek most. If that is not what this group is for, than I apologize.

Skills I possess:

Need volunteer to moderate groups submissions

I'm looking for a few volunteers to look at new groups as they are created and approve them when they meet these conditions:

  • have readable names, descriptions, etc.
  • are not overlapping too much with existing groups
  • are properly categorized (working group vs. geographical group vs. ?)

These guidelines will be further developed over time. If you are interested, please reply here or send me an email. This will be a big gift to our community, and your name will be mentioned on the forthcoming About page.
