Hey OpenLayers Module users & developers,
So, you probably have heard that Development Seed isn't doing Drupal for products or projects anymore - it's been quite a few months since I've actually started up Drupal.

Hi Everyone,
I am trying to port my incomplete GPS application to Drupal. I am using Zend Framework and Google Maps V3 API for development. Could anyone recommend contributed modules available in drupal that I can use for Location and Mapping during my development.

I am curious about Drupal's direction in the world of GIS. Not just showing a map, but being able to efficiently present several layers with a good interface to manage those layers ,etc. much like a more heavyeight local GIS client. I don't really have any projects in particular, but I have numerous projects that could probably start "if only" there was a solution out there within my clients budgets.

I really, really need some guidance.
I have a zipp file containing .shx .shp .phx and .dbf
I searched the modules for finding out witch module would take a GIS file like this, and found the GEO module.
I installed the module and uploaded the GIS zip file without problem.
The GIS file contains markers and info i like to put on a map.
Now here starts my trouble, i just can figure out how to show those markers and info on a map ?
I tried the mapstraction and open layers, but is confused.
I didnt manage to get any sense or map out of either these modules.
geoportal idea
I have a bunch of georeferenced data (published as web services) that I would like to display in a Flex web mapping application which is embedded onto a Drupal page.
If I create a custom content type (geospatial data) which captures some metadata about each georeferenced dataset, including the map service url can I then pass the URL (CCK field) into an embedded Flex web mapping application?

We're working very hard on the 2.x revision of the OpenLayers module, and it's becoming more useful by the day. Here's the current backlog for a 2.x release that I'm working on currently:
Behavior upgrade (rewrite)
OpenLayers advanced behaviors, which were formerly in the openlayers_behaviors module, have been generally rewritten for simplicity and compatibility with the 2.x branch.

Let's do GIS together!
So, Drupal as GIS? Well, Drupal is already being used for GIS; but Drupal is not a GIS. There are many modules addressing a lot of aspects of GIS. But, I feel like we end up duplicating work here and there.
For instance, http://groups.drupal.org/node/20468 is great. But, its kind of funny because bdragon and I just discussed doing this with the openlayers module yesterday, literally. I also realized that I wanted to maybe parse some WMS data and nicemaps was already doing that, but didn't want to have it as a dependency, necessarily.
