Implementing the admin interface prototype and using Pushstate Assisted Navigating (PAN) in Drupal

I've been following Lewis' developments with the prototype and talked to some people about how to implement it and I think it's possible but to do it right will take a lot of work.

I would like to share my notes on this and make a suggestion to discuss pushstate-ajax (pjax) in Drupal, because as browser support is improving I think this will be the technology that allows websites (webapps) to catch up with native apps in terms of speed, responsiveness and scalability.

UMN Testing - First thoughts

As we are getting ready to plan things for UMN testing, I am excited and throwing some irons in the fire. As we all know there are plenty of things that need to be ironed out like - what do we test? how many participants do we need? how much are we compensating them? how long should the sessions be? whom should we test - new users or experts or both? Oh, well ! For such and many more questions, we have the meeting next time :) But just to get things started I would like to share what we could possibly test. The intent of this post is to solicit ideas and suggestions and start a conversation.

WYSIWYG Specification: end-user's perspective

In the Why don't D.O. and G.D.O. use a wysiwyg editor? thread, I suggested it might be good to start a discussion on specifications for a coherant and integrated WYSIWYG user experience in Drupal. This naturally starts at a distance from the priorities of developers, but it's my hope that it's still useful for discuss the issue from the perspective of end-users and site-builders.

Open source, Drupal and Usability

Hi All,

I am considering to present a talk on open source and usability. Since the scope of this is too broad, I am focusing on the BIG CONCERNS of open source (especially Drupal) with respect to usability and user experience and the ways we intend to tackle them. I am particularly interested in getting YOUR reactions to this as it provides me with a fresh perspective on things.

Thank you!

Resources based on four personas

eoriordan says:

I have been thinking of the next step here and the best way to get a bit of momentum behind this again. For me the next step is to begin to create resources based on the personas. What do people think? I think in someways there is so much stuff that we could do that it can be a little overwhelming.

"Ultra Light" User Experience / User Interface Design & Drupal for Startups

I run a group of tech entrepreneurs called Ultra Light Startups (http://ultralightstartups.com/) and I'm interested in the use of Drupal in startups for several reasons. Many of our members' startups are either already built on Drupal or they are evaluating use of Drupal for a project. Several of our members are also active in the NYC Drupal community. Also, after hosting an event on Open Source CMS's last fall, I became convinced that Drupal was the right platform for several of my own projects, including a planned major upgrade to the Ultra Light Startups site.

Pimp Your Admin

You might remember we mentioned that we were going to kick off an activity we call 'Pimp Your Admin' at the recent Drupalcon conference - we have a few interesting screencasts already and now we'd like to invite you to join in!

One of the great things about Drupal is that you can bend it to your will - get it to do just about anything you need it to do. Same goes for it’s administration interface (admin).

    UX Suggestion Box @ Drupalcon

If you were at the recent Drupalcon in DC you may have seen Mark Boulton and I at the UX Table plying people with jellybeans and requesting offerings to our Drupal7 UX Suggestion Box. This is just one of the ways that we are hoping to engage the Drupal community in this project and to continue that process, you'll find below the contents of the suggestion box (as of late Friday, unfortunately our desk and all it's contents was trashed on Friday evening (boo!) so it's possible we've missed a few suggestions).
