Abstract

Although Drupal has switched to Git for its Version Control needs for about an year, yet the workflow is by and far patch based, when it comes to collaborating. While some choose the path of creating sandboxes and then create an issue in the main project, yet we are far from using the power of distributed workflow that Git offers us. The following proposal aims at providing the base of using Git-like workflow while collaborating on projects.

Lots of great idea by community , some of them fascinated me lot. But I will like to share my idea for Gsoc 2012.
overview
i will like to integrate polldaddy with drupal ,till now there is no module which is available for polldaddy. For now polldaddy's api support polling and rating .Lot of interesting stuff can be done.
This is just an idea , would love hear feedbacks from community.

Drupal 8 will release around august 2013. When People will use, they will need their famous Contrib modules. So we should prepare for that. So The Porting of top used contrib modules can a project of GSoC 2012. This will help community and also help student to understand drupal better. Top Contrib projects is written with best drupal practice, So that will help lot more.
This was done before to make drupal 7 better. http://drupalcontribstatus.com is used to watch closer look at top project that mostly used.

One of the main problems faced by Drupal Developers today is that modules customized for a particular application cannot be updated to newer versions without loss of customizations. When updates to such modules are released for a newer version, the developer has to rewrite the customization from scratch in the new version.

I would be interested in working towards the creation of an abstraction layer/module, that would enable version free customizations of Drupal modules for Google Summer Of Code 2012.

Now, this module can basically work in the following way:-

I would be interested in creating a tool which can initiated for the Drupal community website. It would sort out various modules available for Drupal, based on their popularity, and suggest on the most popular modules/themes which can be integrated with the Drupal core.

Summary: A user-friendly conversation-based Drupal customization wizard.

Description: I was inspired by the character creation process in the Ultima games wherein it asks you a series of questions and generates your character sheet based on your responses (with the opportunity to tweak the numbers afterward). It might also be addressing the usability issues @Itangalo is hoping to resolve with a module “app store”. I want to create a system that takes the user through a series of simple questions and then generates a single download of a preconfigured Drupal installation.

Why do you want to do a project involving Drupal?

Drupal core has some support for parsing and generating Gettext Portable Object (.po) files. This functionality was improved with Drupal 7 to support text context, that was part of the spec but not implemented in Drupal before. However, the actual code that is used to process and generate Gettext files is so baked in, there is no practical way to reuse them at all.

Localize.drupal.org is a great site providing a web interface for community translation. Due to technical and scalability reasons the site uses custom code to provide translation of 7000 modules and about 20000 releases of these modules. Each release is parsed and ends up in the database of the site which results in almost 270000 strings to translate. That's a lot of stuff! Now add up that we have almost 100 languages and each string can have any number of suggestions for any language.

The Aegir project is entering a new development cycle with the upcoming release of the stable 1.0 branch. We are therefore looking for contributors to improve the project in many ways. We specifically need help to port the frontend to Drupal 7, write a zonefile editor (which may require resurrecting it from a dead git branch or writing it from scratch), and a bunch of other things.
