DrupalCorn Meeting

This month's presentation will focus on demystifying Drupal. Often developers feel that Drupal is a "black box", doing mystical things behind the scenes.

Learn how to find out what Drupal is actually doing, and focus on activity in one subsystem or another (e.g., form processing or database interactions).

WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get [was-e-wig]) editing is always a pain, no matter what system you use, be it Drupal, Wordpress, Dreamweaver, FrontPage or Word. We'll discuss and demo some of our strategies for providing WYSIWYG capabilities in Drupal.

Menus as a means to finding content are fundamentally flawed in two ways:

1. They is a one to one relationship with content such that the number of menu items is directly tied to number of nodes. This is not scalable as content grows.

2. Creating navigation from a system that basically only allows for one mental path way to any one item is limited. This is not scalable to multiple perspectives, types of audiences or more than one way to find something.

Different bat time and same place, you say? Yes, we have moved to the last Thursday of every month instead of Mondays. Schedules have changed and we are giving this a whirl.

Meeting:
We will be spending the first hour chatting it up about any questions, comments surrounding Drupal. It's "all in", so bring your questions about Drupal projects you are working on. If we can prevent you from buying a new stress ball, it's a win!

It was just 4 months ago but it's time to start planning for the next big DrupalCorn Camp. I would like to start with a retrospective to air all the things we want to improve upon and all the things that went well and we would like to repeat.

Maybe this can be a proxy for our December meeting that we always cancel?

After getting stuffed with turkey and shopping 'til you drop, come by the November DrupalCorn meeting Monday, November 26 at 7pm. John VanDyk will show us all about Views' exposed filters to give your users the power to quickly and easily find the node (or entity) they are looking for.

This month we are going to discuss a little bit about project management. We'll look at a project management system called Redmine and perhaps a little bit about Git and source control with Drupal.

There was a lot of new people at our last meeting. It is great to see so many different kinds of people interested in learning Drupal. Awesome!

Let's have a working meeting where we help bring everyone up a notch and give newbies a quick start. I'll bring a project I am working on and could use some help with. How about you bring your problems/questions/solutions too?

We had so many great people at our DrupalCorn Camp 2012. A great deal of them designers looking to get a handle on Drupal. I'm going to Lead a live demo taking a HTML/CSS theme and turning it into a Drupal theme before your eyes. Yes, it is a magic trick! This will be a great demo for everyone, developers and designers alike.
