Drupal Event Organization

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Welcome to the Drupal Event Organization group. Here we share meetup, camp, regional conference, and international conference organization tips and tricks. The event calendar should be used to announce events, not this group. Feel free to share your tips about successful events and plans, find partners to organize meetups.

There are some lists of tips for event organization:

Results from our brainstorming BOF at Drupalcon

At Drupalcon we had a brainstorming BOF with Alberto to learn as much as possible from the experiences of the Barcelona team. During that meeting I made a mindmap, I reorganised the concepts that we discussed and added some things I thought were missing. The .mm file can be downloaded from my company's server (.mm files not allowed as attachments):

Attention: User Groups Metagroup folded into Drupal Event Organization

The User Groups Metagroup was folded into Drupal Event Orgnization, so this group becomes a one-stop-shop for all things about organizing Drupal events. Information sharing between meetup, Camp and Con organizers will hopefully ensure cross-pollination, so we have some cool ideas from the smaller events implemented in later big conferences and vice versa.

Setting the group focus straight again

Yesterday, here at Drupalcon Barcelona 2007, we had a BoF to discuss organization of bigger events, like this conference we are here to attend. That ignited a lot of good ideas, which I hope to share with you soon. And of course it also raised the need to have a working group here for DrupalCon organizers, especially to share and give away their experience, so new organizers don't need to start everything over.

Meetups for 2007

Let's do this!

I've been brewing something special for my new hometown... Makati!

Right now, I'm still looking for people who would like to help me plan meetups, events, or even ad DrupalCamp here in the Metro.

Our current affiliate for this Makati/Metro Manila event is Asia Pacific College.

Eventually, sponsors such as MTV Philippines, Gold's Gym PH, and many more will participate.

Signup module for dug events and drupalcamps

There was some talk at the Seattle Dug about helping out with signup module so that it would be compatible with things going on here on g.d.o (so that it could be used for signups to dug events)

there is post over here about the todo list for the signup module http://groups.drupal.org/node/5044

maybe the upcoming la drupal camp, or berkeley camp or an associated user group (or the Seattle DUG) would be able to contribute some to the signup module?

DrupalCampNYC3 donation to Drupal Association!

DrupalCampNYC3 is over and everything has finally been wrapped up. The camp was a big success bringing over 130 people together for one full day of Drupal Goodness and a second day of developer hacking. As usual the crowd consisted of people from all walks of life from the complete new-to-drupal person to the advanced Drupal hacker. It was a great time. Thanks to everyone that attended!

I've already weighed in and recommend y'all do too.

Dries is asking some good meta questions about the geographic groups and is also asking for how the association can support us more.

Announcing User Group Meta Group

The User Group Meta Group is a group focused on supporting the regional groups. Each regional group faces many of the same issues: where to advertise, what format the meetings should have, what shwag we should get, organizing meetings around major events in the Drupal community (e.g. release parties), and other issues.

If you help organize a regional user group. consider joining this group to help share successes and get tips from other group organizers.

get copies of books to share

Our local Linux User Groups frequently get free copies of books to give out at meetings. I thought this would be great to do at the Denver/Boulder meetings, especially given the recent release of the Drupal Pro development series. After contacting a few people I found this page from APress:

DrupalCampNYC 2

Start:
2007-01-20 10:00 - 2007-01-21 18:00 Etc/GMT

To my dear New York City, Drupalistas and soon to be Druaplistas,

We are two weeks away from DrupalCamp NYC 2, 20 & 21 Jan. A few of us have been thinking what if we concentrated our efforts on a single project instead of working solely on individual projects? I'm not talking about a classroom setting, but a project (ie install profile, module stuff and theme) to educate each other?

Well here is your opportunity to change the future of one lucky group. Big or small, non-profit or community organization... If you know of a project that can use the assistance of a Drupal site, we need you to nominate them. The lucky organization will also get one year of CivicSpace on Demand (hosted and managed install of Drupal 4.7 and CiviCRM + EMAIL)!

Check out RootsCamp NYC, 18 Nov....

Hey'a NYC Drupalers! I know many of you have helped out in campaigns or know a thing or two about the new media we're dealing in. So why not check out RootsCamp NYC!

So many people at all levels are discovering amazing innovations in organizing, using technology to make a difference, and adapting to newmedia habits. It doesn't make sense for a post-election debrief to exclude the local union activists, precinct captains, heads of a local parties, or other activists who are kicking ass in a bold new way. That's why we want you to attend Rootscamp NYC on Saturday, 18 November 2006.

I know it's a little odd advertising an event that needs a venue, but RootsCamp NYC needs some 'roots lovin. We need 4 - 5 rooms that can host 25 - 30 people. If you know of anyone in the city who has access to a location that's close to public transportation (Union Hall, University, Office Space, etc.), please forward this message with a personalized note and asking them to call me.

I would love some help. Anyone in Portland or attending OSCON available to help organize a days worth of relatively unstructured Drupal activities?

Editing the instructional video from Drupal Camp SF

We captured over 10 hours of video from <a href='http://drupal.org/node/58182">Drupal Camp SF a couple months back. We also have a budget in the neighborhood of $2,000 to put into editing it release. Before we contract someone out to start cutting the video, lets think about what we want to get out of it in the end.

Here is what we covered at the camp:
http://drupal-camp.org/camps/sfapril/notes

Day 1
* Bsics of the Drupal framework, community, and theming system.
* Basics of Drupal configuration
* Jeff shows us how to create an alternative navigation menu for users of sites. This will give users a much more streamlined menu interface.
