ELMS

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

ELMS has approximately 50 modules, themes, and features packaged on drupal.org as well as two full-scale distributions. This group will help foster development efforts in the ELMS community as well as tackel large initiatives like integration with SIS, LDAP, porting to Drupal 7 and beyond.

Drupal distro for designing courses

(This is going out on several channels. Apologies if you get more than one copy.)

There are many Web sites and tools for authoring textbooks: iBooks Author, Flat World Knowledge, etc. Good tech, but there's a fundamental flaw in their specs. They're based on an obsolete view of learning.

Education researchers have shown how we can help students learn STEM skills (STEM: science, tech, engineering and math). Deep learning, formative feedback, other things. We need to redesign authoring software based on these research findings.

State of Drupal in education update

Just a quick community note about some momentum in projects that often times directly benefit the drupal edtech community.

LTI is moving along in the community it seems -- http://drupal.org/sandbox/jzornig/1809350

Epub would be an excellent format to support exports to which funnymonkey has some work into that I need to test -- http://drupal.org/project/epub_export

How best to manage users in ELMS

I am developing a platform particular to ESL learners and I find that ELMS is the perfect resource for helping me to design useful online courses. The only major issue I'm running into with starting is understanding how to manage users. I would like to setup a method of having students subscribe to a course, with some form of payment system, and then manage their access to certain resources. I would then like them to be able to engage in the course materials and also be able to utilize the CLE functionality. I need this all to be under the blanket of one site.

Blockers for Drupal 7

This is the current list of blockers for me with Drupal 7. This is split into three areas: Drupal as a Course (1 course per Drupal site), Ulmus, and ELMS. Drupal as a course is a different distribution that has yet to be named.

Drupal as Course: MOOC Distribution

  • HTML Export - Allow for dump to a tar package (now ArchiveTar is core in D7)
