Drupal Based RPG up ready for testing.

Seven months ago, I embarked on an attempt to create a MMORPG using drupal as a platform.

I am to the point where I need people experienced with drupal to take a look and test and poke. So far, only the artists who contributed have been invited and for the most part they like it, but the main complaint seems to be, 'I KEEP GETTING KILLED'. That is easy to fix.

If you don't mind a limited world, with limited monsters, and items, I would love your opinion and testing.

Things to keep in mind.

Game design for demo game of drupalrtsg

I do have previously implementations of games using rtsg framework, but to be honest, they are not complete, nor very well balanced or are stripped copies of online games (travian and ogame). In order to build a demonstration site I'm open the game design and goals to discussion, so feel free to drop your idea of what kind of game do you like to be testing.

drupalrtsg.net launched

Finally I can take the time to start a clean up and go committing some of all the stuff involving the rtsg framework. Following aaron's steps, I just created a .net domain where I'd like to include also games built with rtsg framework (once it is finally published). Now I do also have additional help from the spanish channel, so I think the cleanup process will be quickly done.

The bard part is that I've to completely rename and review module namespaces (as it changed from drtsg to rtsg, and that requires a hard review).

Using the User API for m web game?

Im making a strategy game (not in Drupal, only PHP with Javascript, you can see in in here www.iasoftgroup.com/xeno). For the login system I use a simple user login/register module. It doesn't do a lot, just the basic data sanitation, so it ocurrs to me that maybe i can use the Drupal API to make it work for me.

So I wanna know similars experiences and ideas of how this could be done. If it easy to do it?. Are there any problem or pitfall that we should be aware of?

how far is drupal in pvp games?

I have a lot of experience with drupal, but none with creating online games.

Im looking to get into building online games, but im trying to give myself real targets.

So im here asking what I currently can acheive with drupal, pretty much out of the box.

Ive seen some modules, RPG, game, 5 second game.

5 second game gives an example of Rock-Scissors-Paper, great, now I have a player v player game on my site. The module also goes onto explain you can create classes, gain levels, exp, stats, etc.

Pretty much a good basis for a standard pvp.

Mafia Game Module

I'm a bit surprised this doesn't seem to exist, but I'd like a module to control the game Mafia. It can be played in a chat room, in person, or on a forum (More information). Strictly speaking, it doesn't need a module, but a module could be created to play as the moderator, who otherwise has to sit the game out.

My drupal game

Hi guys, I want to share with the community what I've done in the past 20 months

www.outer-core.com is the game address, built on top of Drupal 6, using naturally jQuery and a few excellent modules available on d.o

It is a Scifi text-based game, with 35 different ships, over 15 base structures, over 10 types of base defenses, etc. You start with 1 colony (in a planet or moon) and a Colony Ship to build your second base right away. As you growth and improve your empire, you will getting more bases up to 20+ bases and 20+ starbases (orbital mobile bases).

My ideas on whats been done and what would be fun.

I have recently finished two large projects that are totally non-game related and have found the urge to get back into online gaming from the development side. Enthusiastically, I jumped into the entertainment section of the module listing and was surprised to see how many arcade style games were now available. I also took a peak at the game module, it's rationale and think and hope that goes forward. My initial thoughts were that it seemed to be rebuilding the wheel in many aspects. "An API much like nodeapi". I guess I don't understand why you need an entire new API?

Online game site.

Hi Everyone,

I'm kind of new to Drupal. I'm building an online game site and I'm trying to decide between Drupal and Joomla. Can someone please tell me which one is a better candidate for an online game site? And are there a lot of games that I can add to drupal?

Thanks,
Sam

Current developments in Games?

A friend of mine recently proposed his idea for a muck/php/mysql game. I got to thinking about it and realized, "Ah, I can do it with Drupal."

But I was disappointed to find the apparently dismal state of games on Drupal. What's going on? Is there any development in making a tabletop game construction framework?

Drupal backend O3D front?

Surely you've probably seen this, but just in case here is a link to googles O3D API
http://code.google.com/apis/o3d/

O3D is an open-source web API for creating rich, interactive 3D applications in the browser.

Im thinking why not use o3d for the action and 3d of games and interactive website interfaces, what are your thoughts on this? Yeah flash is certainly more ubiquitous, but O3d seems like it will rock our socks off with native app performance in the browser.

By way of introduction, and as a request for feedback.

Hello. I'm a little apprehensive about posting-I've just recently been exposed to Drupal, and have little to no experience with website design. I am eager to learn, however, and everything I've discovered about Drupal leads me to believe that I could use it to do exactly what I want-that is, run a roleplaying game online. With that in mind, I've joined the games group and would welcome any advice y'all would have for me.

Moved Games Nodes

Per the Games and game APIs group to merge with Games discussion, I've just moved all the discussions from the Games and game APIs group to the Games group. That's the first step to retiring the former group. Next will be to migrate all users. You can make this easier by subscribing to the Games group if you're not already.

Thanks,
Aaron

Games as Simulations

The games BoF in DC was great, but it got me wondering if some of the tools that are being built here are being too narrowly marketed. Specifically, the room exploration games that are being done could be billed as "simulations". Basically you're providing a way for a non-admin, non-coder to set up an environment and let users wander about in it. That's a powerful tool that could also be useful for:

Drupal Games BOF (at Drupalcon DC)

The Drupal Games BOF was good, but cut off for the next session. Litwol showed off his work with a Map API (drool...). I showed the old work from RPG, and started talking about the more recent Game Utilities I've been developing. The more interesting conversations continued afterwards, where we discussed some utilities in more detail, projects other folks are working on, and game theory & the state of current games.

There were some great ideas! Let's post some of our ongoing discussions here, get the group going again!

Games and game APIs group to merge with Games

Per discussions on the IRC #drupal-games channel and at http://drupal.org/node/354651, we plan to merge the Games and game APIs group with the Games group. All existing nodes and users will be moved over, and the Games and game APIs group will be deleted. In the process, we'll also change the maintainer(s) to Morbus, litwol, and/or myself.

Please comment on this thread and/or the issue queue with any thoughts or concerns.

Thanks,
Aaron

Game Queue

From the new Game Queue module project page:

Dependent on Game Clock and Game Character.

A Game Queue will act on clock ticks, allowing game characters to add actions to a queue, which will be processed in turn.

Actions take 1 or more Action Points (AP). A character is allowed 1 or more AP to be processed in a single tick.

Before processing, each action is also assigned an Initiative weight.

Modules wishing to make use of this should implement hook_game_queue_action($action). See documentation within module for more info.

Game Character

Just released the new Game Character module.

From the project page:

The Game Character module provides a structure and API for Game Character nodes on your site. You can set one or more node types to be Game Character types from the Game Character administration page, at admin/settings/game_characters. At that point, any nodes of that type will be set as game characters, which may be activated by the owning user, or any user with administrative permissions.

Game Clock

I've just committed the Game Clock module. The module is fully functional, except that you cannot edit existing clocks from the UI yet. (That should come later this week, allowing for an initial official release).

The module is a gaming utility, that allows the creation of game clocks. Game clocks may be used for various purposes, such as keeping an in-game calendar, tracking game effects and events, and limiting characters to acting at a slower pace suitable for a web-based game.
