Migration and Drupal 5.x
I've had trouble migrating sites from my old drupal 5 platforms (5.17 and 5.19) to drupal 6. Aegir seems to have no problem with managing those sites, but when I try to migrate, it fails to create the package list to check compatibility. The error I get is:
* warning: array_keys() [function.array-keys]: The first argument should be an array in /var/aegir/drupal-6.13/profiles/hostmaster/modules/hosting/migrate/hosting_migrate.module on line 122.
Read more local computer, MAMP & Aegir ?
Hi everyone,
For local development, I thought having an Aegir setup would be helpful.
Is it possible to install Aegir on top of a fresh install of MAMP (osx)?
That way we could quickly install, upgrade different versions of Drupal locally for development purposes. Is there a "simple" step-by-step documentation do do this?
Thanks in advance,
.Sam.
Read moreproblems with site verification
Before this latest release, I tried to publish a site using my usual end-of-development method: move the sites/foo.mydomain.com directory to sites/foo.com , and check settings.php for any necessary changes. I deleted the site's node in aegir, and started a verify on the platform so that it would pick up on the new site.... but it didn't. Verify completed successfully, the log indicates that aegir even picked up the modules and themes in sites/foo.com... but foo.com is not included in the sites list.

This page, like all our documentation, is a Wiki - please feel free to add and edit.
The Aegir project is growing rapidly, and more and more people are installing and testing the code. Many users ask about how to help out and give something back to the project - so that's what this page is about.
Finding and Reporting Bugs
So you've found a bug? Although bugs obviously aren't good, in a complex project like this they're bound to exist - so it's brilliant you found it. Now we'd really like your assistance to help us fix it.

Read moreIdeas brainstorm for further improvements in Aegir
I've been thinking up some ideas for potential further improvements to Aegir, and am putting them up here (in no particular logical order) for debate. These are just ideas to make things simpler for end users, and I have no particular attachment to them, so don't mind if they get shot down in flames :) If any of them prove popular in discussion I can open the appropriate feature request in the issue queue....

In some situations you may wish to allow different people access to Aegir, but restrict which sites they can manage.
-
Use Case 1:
As a developer you may simply wish to segregate your sites in Aegir by different clients for your own internal management reasons.
-
Use Case 2:
If you have many staff working on different projects, you may wish to issue them with different logins and restrict which sites they can access on the Aegir system.

Use Case 3:

I've set up aegir this week and I like it. However, I can't backup any sites, and consequently migrations aren't possible either. Here's what the backup task is giving back:

Services module integration
Hi all
Does anyone works on services integration?
I would be glad if I can create sites remotely. Basically the node integration does most of the job, but there are some things what you can't make easily with the current system, so I decided to make a proper integration.
If anyone works on something like this I'd gladly help, else I am open for any suggestion/idea.

I just installed the EC2 instance of pantheon Aegir. When looking through the mercury press flow stack, it would seem like once running, you would be able to hit the ip of the server and be able to see your drupal install there. I seem to get the error message "The connection has timed out". I logged into the server. apache seems to be running. I went through the README file and got up to renamed the vhost.d file to the elastic IP address as well as changing the servername variable to the IP address. However I still get Problem loading page when trying to get to the install page.

The Aegir project is happy to present the first alpha release of the 0.4 milestone. This is a "developer preview" release following the hugely popular 0.3 release, to allow people to play around with the new features we are developing and is not meant to be production-ready, use at your own risks. It should be fairly stable anyways, as very little major changes were brought in, but a lot of new exciting features!

RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://mydomain.com/hosting/disabled/mysite.com?in vhost.d for disabled sites casing Easyapache fail in rebuilding apache/php. My cpanel technician told me Easyapache is trying to run a test script under cgi-sys and it's being 302 redirected instead of being run.
Problem when disabling a site
I found a way to break Aegir.
Create a site such as example.com.
Disable example.com.
Go to admin/content/node and delete example.com site while it's still disabled.
Create a new example.com site.
When you try to go to the new example.com site, you will be redirected to an Aegir page telling you that example.com is disabled, even though the old example.com has been deleted and the new example.com is enabled.
I hope that explanation is clear enough.
Thanks,
Doug Gough

While there are many Aegir related tips and documentation available, including scripts for complete Aegir system install on LAMP stack, we often have clients using Aegir the first time on their new VPS, but with enough experience to manage and transfer Drupal sites, and they often tend to overlook some required steps, they still make simple mistakes, or feel lost in a too detailed how-to, so I think it can be useful to post also some simple check-lists to make the work easier for others and to help enjoy Aegir power and

Aegir has been of great help in managing my sites, there are a few things that would be nice to have though. One of these in automated backups, I did some searching thinking I could put some modules together to do this. I would ideally like to schedule them by hour, day, week etc.
Can anyone inform me on how do configure this?
It would also be great if backups could be sent to a different server, but for now an rsync or scp done by crontab will be fine.
