MongoDB Day Austin: Sat, March 27

Event: http://mongodbday.eventbrite.com/

This event will be of interest to those of you looking to move beyond MySQL/PostgreSQL as the sole data store for your Drupal sites.

MongoDB (wikipedia) is an open source, high performance, schema free, scalable, document-oriented database sponsored by 10gen. MongoDB offers speed, scale and simplicity.

In Drupal 7, you will be able to store cache items, sessions, and even fields in MongoDB.

Themining pager.inc .. Client wants XYZ, Drupal gives ABC

Yes, I'm using devel w/theming, and I get "theme_pager()" as the function to override for this full pager at the bottom of my View. Ok. So all I did was copy theme_pager() over into my template.php, rename "theme", and suddenly, my pager is stripped down to just the pages-- it no longer has the prev next, first last links.

I tried removing that theme override again, and instead use the theme_pager_first(), and that one I can play with all day.

Can someone provide some knowledge on what's not right for me?

Don't fight the Taxonomy!

All my years, I've been fighting Drupal Taxonomy. It's convenient and powerful, but I just haven't got the kind of grasp of it that I can use it effectively. I use it in my own kludgey ways but usually remove the terms bit from node.tpl.php to avoid unfederated browsing. Better, however, would be to embrace taxonomy browsing and learn to theme it better to suit my needs.

Can anyone share a similar journey (on through to a successful, satisfying end) to help guide me there?

Lag between clicks: OS, browser, or hardware?

I'm still developing on Windows Vista, but the machine is a Core 2 Duo (Dell D830) with 4GB ram. So I think the hardware is plenty beefy. I run WAMP locally, and use Firefox for development. Sometimes I have to open upwards of 15+ tabs (scroll-click Edit in the /content/node screen, anyone?), but even when I don't, very often, I find that I am spending a LOT of time waiting for my browser to catch up.

I can't tell if it's Vista or Firefox.

Does anyone in Linux developing against localhost experience these kinds of frustrations?

Ubercart customized browsing experience..

Last night I asked for some knowledgeable Ubercart folks. Would you please drop me a line? I am having a couple stumbling blocks that I think someone who has built a custom view for catalog and product navigation may be able to push me over the hump.

Thanks!

Meeting locations?

I think a discussion about location would be useful. It sounds like the Stafford meeting was a great success, both in quality and attendance.

Does Stafford/Sugar Land actually work better for most?

I suppose there are a few ways to go about this. We could take a poll and determine which part of town is best for most. We could also rotate the meeting and try to vary the location. That said, finding practical venues is a challenge in itself.
