Welcome
Welcome to the Drupal churches group. This is a group centered around building Church websites with Drupal and a point for members of The Church to go out into the Drupal community. In this group we discuss how to use Drupal, modules to use, integrating other services with Drupal, and the ins and outs of building Church websites.
The Drupal church community extends beyond this group. You can find more information and help in the IRC channel #drupal-churches on irc.freenode.org and on the Geeks and God podcast website.
Innovating Tomorrow New Blog
This last couple months I have been putting together a new blog around church technology and, of course, drupal at http://www.innovatingtomorrow.net.
The goal is to talk about technology and the church with ideas, reviews, how tos, and how it all relates to the church.
What I'm curious about is what people think about the look and what I should blog about. I'm looking to help people. Anything in particular sitting out there I can blog about that will help you out?

I am making my first effort to use Drupal and am building a new church Website.
I am used to simple hardcoding in HTML and have avoided automated Website
apps because I disliked the cluttered code they produced.
The goal here is to build a site that multiple leaders in the church may help to
keep updated and which will facilitate staff, leader, and small group communications.
The prior contracted person failed to produce something usable and the site is now
many months late on delivery - I need to get some pictures and a calendar and
contact info up quickly.
QUESTIONS:
Read moreHow many people normally attend your church during the week?
Which version are you using now?
Forums - how to advertise?
I have a question related to a post from another thread:
As for the topic at hand, I'd like to see more churches integrating forums into their main sites. It's simply extending the community—fellowship and interaction—which is already taking place and introducing it to a potentially much larger audience.
I would like to see some forums take off on our church site.
But I haven't been able to convince the pastoral staff of the benefit of them, so there hasn't been much push from them to others to use such a thing.
Recommended Modules for Church Websites
What modules have you guys used or would recommend for building church websites? What have you found popular among churches in the past? What things have you found especially useful?

Hey All!
Many of you may know that mfer and I run the Geeks and God Podcast. In the past we did a 10 part series on building church websites using drupal...there was HUGE interest, and lots of questions. People ask lots of questions about drupal on our website, but I figured I'd offer a more "live" way to talk about building church sites with drupal.
So, today I created the IRC room: #drupal-churches (on irc.freenode.net)
Hopefully we can get a little community going in there. I'll be hanging in there anytime I'm behind the keyboard. See y'all there!
Read moreFlash Image Rotator Module - Does one exist?
I'm designing a church website and we want to have a flash image rotator block on the front page. Ideally, a user could specify images and corresponding links on the back-end. Then the module would take the information and display it as a rotating flash file. When the user clicked on a particular image displayed it would take them to a part of the site.
Have any of you heard of something like this for Drupal? I know it exists for Wordpress and Joomla.

Hi there!
I am new to this group and am in the process of trying to put together a community site for students, past and present on an ordination course.
It would be good if it was possible for individuals to send an email to their own year group, or any other year for that matter, but I have been unable to work out a way of doing this within Drupal. I am looking at integrating mailman but have not got far on this yet as it is currently not available on my server.
I believe it may be possible to do what I want through groups. Has anyone done this?

Hi Glad to find a churches group on here,
I just wanted to introduce myself and introduce a project I am working on. well I am Craig Bertrand...and this is the project...
We (The Missions Organization I work with) are starting a Christian Collaboration Community that will have the option to host civicrm for churches and other Christian groups and we will be trying to make civicrm "just work" for churches. We figure this solution should work for churches with no techie folks, or for those who just dont want to worry about maintaining a server and drupal/civicrm core.
Read moreAccess denied and cant figure out why
Over at our church site we have a list of Bible QAs which was created using views. We want everyone to access to it. For some reason only admins do. But the content in the views can be access by anyone just not the actual page created with views. Looking at the access control I cant see any reason why everyone shouldnt be able to access it.
Any ideas here on what I could be missing?

Hello,
We're starting a new site using Drupal, and I'll have many questions for your expertise, but one question I initially had was if you had any information how to do an annoucments page. Here is our current church website: http://annarbor.hmcc.net/
We want to do something similar on the homepage and also have a seperate page to do the annoucments. Anyone doing anything similar to that, that has a way of doing they could lend us? Thanks!
Looking forward to working w/ you all!

Anyone have any experience with either Ecommerce module or Ubercart module for their church site? We would like to add shopping cart system to our site. Is one of these the way to go?

Does anyone know of a good setup for tracking church members, attendance, finances, etc. with all the bells and whistles that a church could use?
My first image was drupal with civicrm. Anyone have any experience with this? Or, know of something else?

We finally launched a new website for our church. It uses Drupal 5.1, and I thought you guys might be interested: http://www.kairoschurch.org
In retrospect I wish I had used CCK and Views for the whole site rather than only for parts of the website. If I have time I'll probably end up refactoring the site. Also I may do a series on my personal website ( http://www.duskintodawn.com ) on tools/tips for Drupal later this year.

Howdy everyone - Been on this group for a few months now. I have looked at several CMS's and tried to use several to develop a church website. After spending a little bit of time with Drupal and seeing other sites that use it, I am very interested in using it for our church.

Over on the Geeks and God podcast we did a 10 part series on drupal and targeted it at churches. We ran the series starting with the terminology and ran though some more complex things.
Our goal was to ease the entering point into using a content management system and hopefully accomplished that with drupal. You can find out the details of the series and episode breakdown here. Hope everyone enjoys.

Specing out a Web site within Drupal is a lot of work. I'm finding that I almost have to build the Web site first, before I can confidently write the spec. Anyone else have that experience??
I’m in process of doing a ton of research and testing in an attempt to put together a church distribution. I’d appreciate any comments/critiques/recommendations. I even have some unanswered questions that perhaps someone can answer.
The requirements for this church Web site are below. My comments/questions are in parenthesis underneath each listed requirement:

When I created this group, I really didn't expect to see 84 subscribers listed. I confess that I haven't been nearly as involved in this group as I should have been. There are a number of contributing factors in that, but I won't bore you. However, since this has become a rather popular place (and because ebrittweb suggested it a while back) I'd like to make it a little easier to use by adding some custom taxonomy. Before I do that, though, I'd like to get some opinions from the group on how to organize the vocabularies and terms.
