Hello Everyone,
We are moving our newspaper site to drupal 6 and I would like to add our entire archive of stories from our Archive Ique to our new Drupal archive as well. Has anyone here had any experience with this or other transfer options? I am somewhat new to drupal so any tips on creating the archive, transferring stories from Baseview/Mediaspan archive, or the like would be so helpful. I am glad to be a part of this group and will post a writeup on our methods, setup, modules, success and pitfalls after this whole process is done. Lots o' learnin to do yet. Thanks Eric.

similar experiences - none the same so far
I think yours would be the first migrating from Archive Ique, but there are plenty of templates that you can copy:
Phorum converter
Node Import provides a generic approach to importing nodes
There are also lots of custom systems that have been built (I helped build one from a custom Vignette system running on Oracle to Drupal, I know many other people have built similar systems). These usually don't get much publicity because they are completely custom systems and therefore not useful to the general public.
It will certainly be interesting to follow your progress.

Yeah
Yeah I figured there has to be someone out there using Archive iQue that is converting to drupal but have never posted or thought to share that process (Now I am thinking there is not anyone there) :). We're all in our own little world sometimes, especially with the proprietary software. I will definitely keep posting on my progress with this as the time comes to make the transfer and let everyone know how this is done and what modules, if any, can be used.
Thanks..
Archive IQue extraction
I'm a Drupal neophite so I don't have that much experience with that end. I have set up a test site and am learning when I can. I have, however, just moved our Archive IQue database to our MediaSpan Online site archive, one story at a time. I used searches and Transporter to make an XML file for every story and sent them to MOS to be added to our online archive database. The format of the XML can be customized and doesn't require XML. It can be formatted to be almost any text file. I also use this to send to Newsbank, AP, etc. If there is a way to ingest XML or text files into Drupal, it shouldn't really be that hard to get a doc formatted to work. If I had a sample of what the format looked like I could see if it could work.
You are limited to the categories etc contained in the IQue database, but most newspapers have what they need for the web archive to work pretty well.
Output XML
If you have the ability to output XML with Transporter, you should be able to format it in an RSS-like or Atom-like feed, and process the result with Drupal's FeedAPI module. Feed Element Mapper is useful for placing your various XML fields into custom Drupal CCK fields.
