Hello, I'm Ken Rickard, and I work for Morris DigitalWorks (MDW) in Augusta, Georgia (USA, home of the Masters golf tournament and the late James Brown).
MDW is a division of Morris Communications, which owns daily newspapers, radio stations, and travel publications in the US and Europe.
Over a gmail chat, I encouraged Nikolai to start this group. Like Nikolai, my background is non-technical. I have a Master's Degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia.
I've been in the newspaper / online business since 1998. I do R&D work, and Drupal has been part of that. I also wrote the MySite personalization module for Drupal.
Before that, I ran the web operations for our newspapers in St. Augustine, Florida and Conway, Arkansas.
At MDW, we've been experimenting with Drupal since 4.5, launching our first Intranet site in late 2004. That site is used by advertising sales to share ideas, submit revenue reports, and discuss sales and marketing strategies.
In April of 2005, we launched BlufftonToday.com, a local newspaper in Bluffton, South Carolina (just across the bay from Hilton Head Island). Bluffton is a free daily print newspaper, in tabloid format (it may still be the only free home-delivery daily in the U.S.).
In June of 2006, we launched the new SavannahNow.com the web service of the Savannah (Georgia) Morning News on Drupal. Unlike Bluffton, the entire daily contents of the Morning News are republished through Drupal (see today's edition here).
We are currently launching our newspapers on a standard Drupal blogging platform (see this example).
