Using the default theme can't get content into 2nd column.

Can anyone explain better than the docs at Openpublish how to publish content into the 2nd column. I can't seem to wrap my mind around it using the context inspector.

Have you published any media

Have you published any media or blog content types?
The most helpful thing I did on my first install was create content for each content type, to see how OP handled it.

I believe by default blogs and media go to the 2nd column - but I've changed it around since then, so I'm not quite certain.

Context...

This is with Context

You should go to:

http://anthemnews4.ittybittywebco.com/admin/build/context

find "openpublish-listing_pages-frontpage" context and edit it.
( this is the direct link: http://anthemnews4.ittybittywebco.com/admin/build/context/list/openpubli...)

There, you will find all theme regions with the blocks in every region. (click the block link in "Reactions")
This is all about "Context" . You have the ability to show different conten on different regions based on context.

Hope this helps.
Please feel free to ask any questions if you want to help further.

Thanks

Thanks you two. I'm really frustrated at the lack of clear instructions from Acquia and OpenPublish.

We need more information

Danielle Sheffler's picture

shoconnor, we're more than happy to help if you tell us what you need. Have you contacted anyone other than the email you sent regarding the documentation link being broken (we fixed it and sent an email back)? We want to make sure we are providing clear instructions on how OpenPublish works.

Something you can do to help us out is to list the areas where you need more instructions for OpenPublish. We are currently working on more documentation but are also looking for others in the community to help out as well. This means that we need to know what's missing, so we can improve on what exists. Additionally, with the answers you received above, would you be willing to write something and post it on our documentation wiki?

Theming OP

Hi Danielle,
One place to start would be to finish the documentation 'Theming OpenPublish'
Thanks

I ran into the same problem

Downes's picture

I ran into the same problem while setting up monctonfreepress.ca - the trick is (after you've found the front page context page) is clicking on 'Blocks' to open up the list of blocks. It's really obscure the way it is, and I don't think anything anywhere tells you that the list of blocks is hidden behind the link.

There are other common set-up tasks that are difficult to find. For example, I'm trying to change the behaviour of the 'create Article' menu so it defaults to 'published' (because as it is now, every time I create an article and save, I have to go back a second time and select 'Published' in the workflow). I have no idea how to do this.

p.s. Yes I would write wiki documentation if I had in exchange a promise from OpenPublish that they'll answer my questions. I sent them a question (about an images bug) to their website which was simply ignored.

Publishing articles

Is the published checkbox checked in the workflow settings at admin/content/node-type/article?

And we did not intentionally ignore your request. It has been less than 2 weeks since your request, and we will respond in the near future.

Yes

If the current state is set

Danielle Sheffler's picture

If the current state is set to Published in the workflow settings and your OpenPublish default workflow is set to Published (within the actual create article node), then your article should be published. Have you made any other changes to OpenPublish as it would relate to articles?

No, none.

It's odd. The default state is set to 'published' but when I open a new article editing screen, the workflow state radio button is at 'creation'. So, OK, I could sort of see that. But even when I change the radio button to 'published', it does not publish. If however I return to the edit screen and select the 'published' radio button, it works. Also if I select 'publish' on the Content page.
