My name is Gus Austin. I'm a musician, self-taught web designer/developer, and relative newbie to Drupal.
I've been working on what I'm calling a hyperlocal music community (details here - test site here). Sort of a mashup between public broadcasting network (NPR, BBC) and a hyperlocal citizen-journalism/media site (Lawrence.com, Texas Gigs, Drupal sites that are already represented in this group). Specific content aside, I'm hoping my efforts, in collaboration with other like minded folks, can lead to the creation of a multimedia rich, newspaper/magazine style installation profile.
I look forward to collaborating with and learning a lot from this group!

I had a look at you site and like where your going with it. Where did you get the music player? I like that, but unfortunately I can't use it for my site.
I'm in the very early stages of creating a site centered around food. I love to cook, eat, drink, etc. so I'm going to create a site for people (initially just friends) to post reviews of local restaurants, food, beer, wine, etc.

Installer profile interests
Installer profile interests me too..
Indeed, use of installer profile is great amount of work & time saved.
It helps if you are working for some vertical solution.
Not sure how you start with but for me it is important to list down all the feature requirement first.
2. Identify all the modules required to build the solution.
3. List down all the configuration required to build the solution.
4. Write the profile to enable all the above.
You are done.
For a newspaper site kind of solution you need to have multiple content types some are readily available like forum, book, articles while others may be required to build.
You will need a custom module to build several blocks that pull content of different content type, which you may want to configure at different landing pages.
A well designed taxonomy is also a critical element in the architecture.
This is something to start with, there could be many.
Will touch base with this later.
Let me know if anyone think otherwise or want to add missed things over here.

wait for Drupal 6 to create a magazine style installation ?
Hi
I am very impressed by the reactivity of this Drupal community and expert members, like Translector or Ken Rickard for example.
The idea suggested by gusaus to create a newspaper/magazine style installation profile is very interesting also.
But, as a newbie, I was told that only Drupal 6 will soon managed more easily multi lingual web sites and installation. Is it true Ken Rickard ?
So, as many of our editorial projects come from a lot of countries around the world, like jeffchi, would'nt it be necessary to wait for Drupal 6 to developp this newspaper/magazine style installation profile ?
According to you, should it include an newspaper/magazine template style ?
regarding the Drupal modules to include, Itangalo did a great job listing them ?
