With Drupalcon Denver going, we're meeting a lot of new people who reach out saying they would like to get involved. It's not easy to find the best place to get started in this big big community with so many things going on.
So, please use this thread to say hi, introduce yourself and tell a bit about what you do and how you think you'd like to contribute. From that, we can help eachother find a place and topic to get cracking on.
Thank you!

Hi!
I'm a huge proponent of UX/IA and we highly encourage this at The Nerdery. Drupal is riddled with usability problems, for both site builders (configuration) and content contributors. I have a few ideas on how to unify this, but it would mean another layer of abstraction between the core functions and the theme layer with several hooks between both. Technically, it would be a complicated thing to architect, but would significantly improve usability on both fronts. I'd love to brainstorm more about it!
Hello
I'd like to become more involved in this an help anyway that I can.
Some of my skills are:
-Front end development CSS,Javascript,HTML5
-Backend development PHP, CLI, patching git etc.
I would really like a list of "Things to do" so I can dig in and start working
Hi From Michael
I think my most useful role is to help connect the world of UX to that of development - because I am a UX designer and a developer. There are some significant challenges in arriving at a UI system that can take full advantage of the core context architecture. I can present questions, concepts and hypotheses that can help us establish the underlying interaction strategies that in turn can help in coordinating everyone's design efforts within the limited time available.
I enjoyed meeting so many of you in person this week.

Hi from Mike
I'd like to help with the UI/UX gaps
Would love to get a list of to-dos to get my feet wet
Hi from Boris Smirnov
Hey There. I would love to help in some way.
Would be good to see a list of tasks and have a way to collaborate with people.
As others said there are tons of room for improvement in all sorts of places in Drupal.
What are the low hanging fruits and how can we approach this systematically?

Hi
I'm Roy, interaction designer from the Netherlands, helping with a better Drupal UX since 2008.
To get an idea of the actionable usability issues out there, check this link: http://drupal.org/project/issues/search/&issue_tags=Usability
For the javascript inclined: http://drupal.org/project/issues/search/&issue_tags=javascript
We had a usability meetup at Drupalcon Denver ( Here are the notes ) where one of the main requests was indeed to get a list of actionable items. We should work on that. For those who already are comfortable with writing and reviewing patches, the two links above should be a nice introduction.
Thanks all for joining the conversation here, that's already a great start. Thank you.
Hi
Hello Everyone,
I am Dharmesh Mistry, UX researcher at Acquia.
I have formal training in conducting UX research (e.g. design research and usability testing) and I try to contribute to the Drupal project as much as I can.
Great to meet some of you at the Con!

Hi
Hi everyone! I work at Phase2 Technology as a Community Manager. I am a Certified Usability Analyst through HFI and am a big proponent of user centered design and usability testing and have experience in both. I'd like to bring both of these skills to the table to not only help make suggestions on the look and feel of changes to Drupal but would also like to help testing those with users. I'm really excited to get involved and am looking forward to working with all of you.

Hi from TommyK
Hello Everyone! It's been a while since DrupalCon and I've been a bit swamped since I've been back. I'm finally getting a chance to check in with this group.
It was a great BoF in Denver and I was happy to volunteer to begin/continue posting issues to the proper places on d.o.
Cheers,
Tommy
Thanks everyone
For those interested in helping out with doing usability testing, check out http://groups.drupal.org/node/223959 which has the study plan for testing the new proposal for the content creation page.
And hi TommyK, nice talking with you in Denver indeed. What we specifically discussed there was to look at the findings in http://drupal.org/node/1427940, look through http://drupal.org/project/issues/search/&issue_tags=Usability if a matching issue already exists and reference that (both ways) and create new issues where needed. Which is the short version, do let me know if you have further questions.
Adding to yoroy's point
This is a fun project to work on (at least that's what I think J).
If you are interested, let's talk. You can do either or both of these two things:
If you contribute, besides from the appreciation from the community, I will give a hug to each one of you. Well, more of a virtual hug because we all are remote. :)

Hi from Murray
Hi, everyone!
I'm a UX Designer up in the Great White North (AKA Canada), working in Calgary, Alberta for a telecommunications company.
Although I'm familiar with other frameworks and CMS systems, I am fairly new to Drupal. My interest was first raised in Drupal while looking at it as a web framework when working for a city government, and hearing of the D7 efforts from a UX POV. Sadly, I never got into it until now, and I hope that contributing will give me greater opportunity to learn as well as help out the community.
I'm interested in assisting with different areas of UX, from determining strategy/concept development, to IA, IxD, and user testing. I'm also good with taking on visual design tasks, front-end dev, and SQL, if those crossover skills might come in handy to the group.
Hi Murdocke. Crossover skills
Hi Murdocke. Crossover skills are most welcome, we always have the hardest time transitioning a design proposal into working code.
Give it some time, I hope you'll find a way to do your thing!
