Taxonomy question and swedish characters

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hej,

I have a list of all of the schools in sweden on a csv which are categorised into skol, län, kommun, skolform, address, email, telefon...

Ultimately i want these to appear as fields for profiles (profile2) for users for signup, booking of tutors. My thinking is that I will import the csv into taxonomy vocabularies, which from my research so far is not so simple. I am thinking that if i can get the data into mysql, outside of drupal, then i can manipulate it a bit easier, however when i try to import a csv via a mysql query i get into problems. I have got the data via skolverket website and a html table to csv converter which is a bit ugly but it looks ok and the best way i have been able to get the data without bothering too many civil servants. When i open the csv file in textmate i have to convert the data to nordic iso 6 for it to look ok. I am hoping that people here with experience of dealing with the nordic characters can help me out. Suggestions with the wider question of hierarchically organising the data in drupal, or just how to handle a csv with swedish characters to get into mysql.

Tusen tack,
Ed

Swedish characters should not

Swedish characters should not be a problem. I would though recommend you to use Migrate to do the Drupal side of the migration (to avoid problems with for example swedish characters :) ). Migrate allows you to use mysql, csv etc as source.

I found this Stackoverflow discussion, that might help you get started with your taxonomy import

And another tip that I havent tested but sounds just up your sleeve is Taxonomy CSV Import/export
