Drupal UX BoF at CapitalCamp 2013

Attendee positives:

  • Drupal is getting better for marketers, content editors
  • Inline editing is great!
  • Style guide is good.

Attendee pain points:

  • Content Management – Finding content is difficult
  • Contrib modules breaks the experience
  • We need to identify those contrib modules that are focused on marketing modules
  • Dsheffler has done an evaluation on “People” section that uncovered a lot of messaging content.
  • Concern with maintenance of the integrated marketing modules
  • Need for content assessment management – for multi-site, sites, and external platforms
  • Multisite management – for content and media
  • Adopting an abandoned modules is a broken process – not sure what is the process
  • Some of the vertical tab options are not the primary use case. They make the screen busy.
  • Style guide is good. But let’s also have best practices for the contrib modules

Action items:

  • A lot of UI texts need to be changed before Drupal 8 – The guy from 4site is ready to help with that.
  • May be we focus on the content creation page for UI text – People and Content page for now.
  • Need to get the tour module status
  • Module maintainer user list – May be should tell that to module maintainers to communicate news that UX happy hour team will happy to help to provide feedback on the contrib modules

Module maintainers crosscheck with password reset

tsvenson's picture

Some really great points in there. Look forward to hear what's to follow.

Regarding the concerns about module maintaining, including the point about abandoned project, I think we have a great opportunity as a side effect from the password reset.

How about simply crosschecking project owners/maintainers with if those users have performed a reset? I believe it would be useful to identify especially projects that are abandoned.

Perhaps Create Some Indeterminate Category

The verbiage can be whatever you like, but it should indicate that the module, etc. is potentially abandoned and may not be maintained.

Ui copy

Thanks for the notes, some. Recurring themes in there.

For the style guide: the contrib best practices start with doing what core does. There's also https://drupal.org/ui-standards which will need updating for d8. It probably needs more exposure.

Subscribe to https://groups.drupal.org/node/306663 for those who want to help with improving ui copy. What were the messaging issues in the people section?
