Are e-mail alerts before dojo screencasts still sent out?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

No e-mail reminder was sent out before yesterday's screencast (which I missed). For previous dojos an e-mail reminder with instructions on viewing was sent out to subscribers shortly before the screencast started. I for one found this useful!

They are sent manually

The email notifications are sent out manually by Josh. He couldn't join us the last lesson and so the emails didn't get sent out.

I wonder if we could automate this?

Isn't there a mailing list module of some sort that allows subscriptions? I'll set it up on dd.com if someone wants to suggest a contrib module or two that would to the trick.

We need:

User login to dd.com using a drupal.org ID. All such authed users would be given an 'emaillist' Role. All profiles on dd.com that are created as a result of this login would have nothing but a checkbox for Dojo Email Notifications. Nothing more. I'm not offering to build a custom User Profile structure here! :=0

  1. A preset text that can be emailed to all subscribers at a certain datetime.

  2. An unsubscribe link in the body of the email that unsets the User's "Dojo Email Notifications" field.

There is no #3. At least, I can't think of anything.

Well, drupal.org uses simplenews.module, but I think we should keep this functionality within groups.drupal.org (surprise!).

Any g.d.o site maintainer can send that email - self included. Any drupal-dojo group admin can send it as well (and if we need more people in that role I imagine joshk will be happy to add more - currently joshk and senpai are group admins). Anyone that would be given the permission to send that mail on dd.com could be made an admin here.

Thoughts?

Is there something missing from my solution that would be available on dd.com?

I'm with greggles on this

This needs to stay on g.d.o. We can't be asking people to login to a totally different site just to get an email. It just won't happen.

I'd volunteer to help with admin if more are needed.

Really? I had no idea!

I could have sent that email? Wow! Forget everything I said above. I un-announce my candidacy for this module install on dd.com!

Sorry all! I was slackin on Sunday! Greggles, How do I get to this g.d.o site functionality?

Only thing missing is an automatical solution

The more I think about it, the more I'd like to see what it'd take to make some sort of automated emaillist here on the g.d.o. Judging from the Event Calendar, there's a lotta groups that hold weekly meetings and need to announce this sort of stuff. Is the Organic Groups module capable of that already? That is what powers the g.d.o, right?

Back when the dojo first started, Josh was sending out emails with a "sorry if I'm spamming you, but...". Now that there are 620 dojii, having a checkbox on our profiles that lets us choose whether to receive reminder emails would be a golden ticket for our group, and all others too, I'd suspect.

Moshe? Moshe!

I dropped the ball here. I'll be taking steps to decentralize my responsibilities going forward. All apologies, everyone.

I need ops for the dojo email list. Whenever you get to it. I know the OSCMS is upon us.
