To contribute

This is a wiki page. Please edit.

To participate

  • add an "event" of type "sprint" on groups.drupal.org in a group for your area, to put your event on drupical.com and get exposure to people in your area
  • use "Drupal Global Contribution Weekend 2019" in the description of your event, like: "Drupal All-day Contribution Event in Anywhere Town, IL, USA is part of Drupal Global Contribution Weekend 2019."
  • add a link to your event on this page. The link can be to a website, meetup, event on groups.drupal.org, blog post or whatever is appropriate for your event.
  • link back to this listing of local events
  • use the #ContributionWeekend hash tag on Twitter
  • use the tag "ContributionWeekend2019" on drupal.org issues (no # in this tag name!)

Suggested announcement

A blurb to add to your session/event description (edit to fit your event):

Everyone is welcome; if you have built a site in Drupal, you can contribute. We will split into groups and work on Drupal core issues. Bring your laptop. For new folks: you can get a head start also by making an account on Drupal.org, getting some contribution tools, and developers can install git before coming and git clone Drupal 8 core.

Who wants to contribute to accessibility issues?

andrewmacpherson's picture

I'm one of the core accessibility maintainers. I've added a wiki page for anyone interested in working on accessibility, and added it to the virtual sprint category here.

Physically, I'll be attending the Leeds, UK meeting.

Hello! :)

Hi Folks - We in India, have planned the Drupal Global Contribution happening in New Delhi a week later as it clashes with Republic Day of India and might limit our audience participation. Hope that is alright. More details here: https://groups.drupal.org/node/534698

Global Contribution Weekend general landing page?

hexabinaer's picture

Does anyone know if we have or once had a generic "Global Contribution Weekend" page that we could generally link to?

A customer just answered that it doesn't fit this year but they'd like to add next year's date to their calendar already. Now we're lacking a link.

Actually a low-hanging fruit, just wanted to make sure first ;-)

Next year

There isn’t a generic page for The Global Contribution Weekend. But it usually happens the last weekend of January – so next year should be January 24 to 26. It will be announced properly in October or November.

If you can’t wait that long, you can organise a Contribution Event any time you want.

No there isn't a general

No there isn't a general page, but DGCW happens every last weekend of January, so next year should be 24-25-26 oj Jan.

Sorry for my being unclear

hexabinaer's picture

Because of exactly those answers ("happens every year at ...") I thought we should have a landing page. Ok we don't have one, I think I'll create one as one of my weekend's contributions.

Last year I had provided an artwork template. Just one of those reasons ;-)

Nice!

Probably a good issue to file and work on in the d.o. Community project too.

Update online chat information?

mradcliffe's picture

I think it would be nice to add in more recent chat information.

Use irc, and post a comment when about to work on an issue.

Should probably changed to

Join us on Drupal Slack, DrupalChat or IRC and post a comment when you are about to work on an issue.

Layout Builder documentation

tedbow's picture

If you are sprinting this weekend and know how to use new Layout Builder module in Drupal 8 we could use your help on the documentation page: https://www.drupal.org/docs/8/core/modules/experimental-layout-builder

Right now I have created just the stub pages.

The issue for creating the documentation is : https://www.drupal.org/project/drupal/issues/2919811#comment-12942388

there are some ideas there and you can comment if you helping

Feel free to contact me @tedbow on the #layouts channel of Drupal slack

South America & Asia

Isn't there any upcoming meetups for Latin America for 2019? Asia should have more meetups as well, because its a big continental and meetups are only in India.

Will this event also be planned for 2020?

sadamafridi's picture

Will this event also be planned for 2020? We have some developers from Blitz Marketing Group that would love to go.

TL;DR – Yes

John Cook's picture

The event posting is usually created near the end of November so people have enough time to organise for the end of January.

But if you don’t want to wait that long, you host your own at any time. You can find help organising one at https://www.drupal.org/sprints. Don’t forget to add an event here and you can get other people to come along.
