Replicating Slider/Rotator a la New York Times

I have been experimenting with some of the rotator and slideshow modules and I am still a little puzzled how to proceed. I am basically trying to replicate the functionality of the "slider" element from the New York Times (see the bottom of page "Inside NYTIMES.COM" where there is typically the section, an image (but not always) and then the article title. There is an arrow pager on the upper-right side of the slider.

I have been looking at the slider / rotator modules but cannot pinpoint which ones would replicate this element. Ideally, I would want the slider to grab each teaser from Views (taxonomy term, Image (re-sized with imagecache) and title (linked to story).

It seems like most of the slideshow do not have the layout which I want. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!
David

This might be achieved using Views Slideshow, since views is so flexible. VS can be used for more than just images. I am currently using Views Slideshow, but I admit that I haven't really explored all its possibilities. Although, seeing this slider does give me ideas.
