Note this is about the .org site, NOT the main .com site.
I am currently hosting the drupaldojo.org website on one of my servers. I am in the process of consolidating and moving all of my sites to a new VPS. I am perfectly willing to move dd.org to the new server but before I go to all that work I would like to propose that we stop using it. dd.org has never really gained any traction and hardly anyone uses it. the few things we started on it have completely fizzled and died. I think we are better served to use the d.o issue queue, g.d.o and dd.com for our work. Having 3 places is already quite spread out and I see no advantage to a fourth, neglected satellite site.
I propose that we take down dd.org and redirect the domain name to point to dd.com. If enough people really want to keep using dd.org and have good reason then I will go ahead and move the site to my new server. I don't consider it a burden at all to maintain the site (it uses very little space or bandwidth), I simply think it is spreading us out a bit much in terms of info and organization.

Less sites is good, but let's not lose any work!
Hey,
I'm mostly out of things for the moment, but I thought I'd throw in my $0.02:
1) I think we're generally spread thin, and having a /planning section (or just a blog/planet, as we discussed) on dd.com could be better than a whole site.
2) That said, we should be sure not to lose any of the content and ideas that have been collected on dd.org. I know dmitrig01 has put a lot of work into that site, and it would be a real bummer to lose any of that.
I'll be more active in the new year. DD2.0 will happen!

Agreed
Good point. Obviously I'll have backups of everything but we need to look at what we have there.
There are only 3 small pages of planning work on dd.org that should probably be moved to the issue queue with a simple copy paste (and upload of the image.)
AFAICT the docs subdomain was only recently used as a scratch area for the module tutorial for 6 docs and we definitely don't want to lose that. Do we have a place this could move to or is it just easier to keep dd.org for a while longer? I'm actually inclined to move them to the d.o handbook since they will get a LOT more community traffic and feedback and they are an important doc to get finished soon. Nothing has happened on the dd.org pages for 6 weeks now. My deadline to get off the old server is the end of January and hopefully the D6 docs could be rolled into the d.o handbook by then. If not, then I can move that part of the site over to my new server.

Moving posts off
I have moved dmirtig01's posts to the d.o issue queue and added a comment to the module tutorial issue to move those pages to the d.o handbook.
I will make a backup of the dd.org site before I close the account and will upload the backups to the dd.com server for storage in case we need to go back for anything else later.

Time to redirect
OK, I have moved the Module Tutorial to the handbook and Dmitri's issues are already moved over. I will run backups of DB and files tonight.
Senpai, please feel free to redirect dd.org domain name to the dd.com server whenever you like now. I will be taking the site down within the next week or so.

Can we keep the domain name though?
I thing it'd be really good to keep the domain name. I'll take it over, and point it to our main server for now. In the future, it will come in handy once again, but for now, addi is right. Loose the dd.org site.

Switch to drupal.tv
Hi,
Dries Buytaert owns the DRUPAL.TV domain. But there is no content on this site, and there are no plans about it.
Why not launch Drupal Dojo 2.0 under drupal.tv? This domain is 100 times better than drupaldojo.com. Don't waste this great domain.
Uhh, well because Dries owns
Uhh, well because Dries owns it and we have no idea what his plans are for it. Moreso though, the drupaldojo.com site/domain has been in use for almost a year now and I don't see any reason to stop using it.

Yes, but you can redirect
Yes, but you can redirect the old domain. And drupal.tv is the most meaning name for this type of site.
I like it the way it is :)
disclaimer: I do not claim to share the opinion of anyone posting here
(Just to make sure no one bites me for throwing this link in ;) )
Bence, have you read the 7 million reasons thread d.o/node/202638
I heavn't read the full thread and it actually has nothing to do with this question but maybe for some it would?
I am not involved with dojo (yet) but I as a user of dojo I am totally happy with how things are atm and as a SEO guy I can tell you that it would hurt the rankings of drupaldojo (at least for some time) which would result in less people finding it. Well and about the meaning, I really like all the drupal terms like the dojo thing and drupal drupal ninja stuff. It's part of the community somehow I guess. People that know each other use codes and ironical language and similar, that's normal behavior and makes people feel part of the community.
Matter of opinion I guess
True dat, but I respectfully disagree that it is the most meaningful name for what the Dojo does. We are doing more than "TV" and the Dojo is a well established name/concept in the community now. We aren't just showing videos but trying to build a mentoring environment. There is also an actual Drupal TV: http://drupal.org/tv.
If folks in the Dojo think it is a good idea and someone wants to create a proposal with which to approach Dries and ask him to use it, then that's fine. I just happen to feel it is unnecessary. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, less confusion == good!
Hey folks,
As one of the very newest Dojo members, there are as yet few issues that I feel confident to advise on. But this is one of them.
-- Do not de-emphasize the drupaldojo.com domain -- the site there is well designed and easy to find.
-- The Dojo brand is well publicized -- it's mentioned in handbook pages, podcasts, blogs.
-- Try to improve the links to this g.d.o group from DrupalDojo.com. If you don't know about this group, you tend to assume that the slickly designed DrupalDojo.com is all there is, and that it's some sort of broadcast network rather than a community. Yet, this seems to be where events are planned and the discussion is centered.
There is a subtle link to this site at the very bottom of the drupaldojo.com page, and another subtle link under "howToHelp" -- precisely where a pure beginner is least likely to look. Moreover, when I did stumble across this group, I wasn't sure it was really alive -- I clicked on Upcoming Events, saw it was a month or two behind the actual events, and kept on going.
-- Don't change the name to Drupal.tv. That would only underline the idea that the Dojo is like a one-way broadcasting network.
-- Yes, eliminate redundant meeting places. Though it is fun to conceptualize the Dojo as a mist, a film of wisdom and insight that surrounds us all and can never be nailed down, the reality is that a dozen websites with one post each is a lot less effective than one website with a dozen posts.
