Read moreDiscussions are not visible within my Groups
I have developed Groups within my Drupal site and have enabled discussions. After posting the discussion they are no longer visible. In addition, after creating a discussion and going back to "Group" I have a column labeled "Posts" and it shows, numerically, the added post. So, I assume the Group has recognized the new post. When I go to the specific group a system generated message appears, "No posts in this Group." Could certainly use some help. The web address is www.penandpost.fortewebdev.com

I started to work with a missions organization on developing a site used for internal communication between their IT people, and unfortunately didn't have the time available I though I would have to work on the site. I'm looking for a Drupal dev who would be willing to donate some time to do the site for them. I will manage the project and put in some time helping when I can, but you would be doing the bulk of the work.
It's strictly on a volunteer basis, so no money's involved, but you would get the satisfaction of doing work for a great organization.
Thanks.
Steve
Read morePetition/send petition module or setup?
A client has asked me to set up a page which involves signing a 'petition' and emailing it to friends. I was curious if anyone has any recommendations of either modules or methods (forms/rules/actions) to implement this? Drupal 7 only.
Thanks,
Maria

cloudflare
i was checking out lulzsecurity-com and saw that they were using cloudflare-com for there DNS. Has anyone had any luck speeding up there site with cloudflare? Apparently they are mirroring Your site on farms around the world. Sounds like a great idea. I ran a free godaddy site nnepdx-com thru cloudflare-com free service but it basically slowed it way down. They scrape Your public zone records so You do not give them anything protected then You point Your DNS to there nameservers. The con being if they do not like You they could throttle Your traffic.

Our user group abounds with talented home brewers, and there have been casual conversations about brewing for the Drupal Summit after party. Sarah & Sarah confirmed that the venue will allow for outside food and beverage and wanted to get the word out so people have plenty of time to plan and craft.
For those interested in participating but lacking experience, equipment, or space, halstead is putting together a brewing party at his place. Let him know in the comments here or via his contact form if you're interested.

Good news: OpenSourcery has officially become an Acquia training partner. Which means that we're finally executing a plan that has brewing for a long time: we're going all in on Drupal education. The hardest part of my job is turning away nonprofit organizations that don't have enough budget to hire a firm. Now we have a more affordable option - learn to do it yourself.
We've scheduled 10 training events up the west coast from now through December, starting with a 3-day Drupal 7 site building event at our office in downtown Portland.

Read moreWednesday's User Group Meeting (Extreme Drupal Performance + KentuckyDerby.com + Location/Maps)
Hey everyone,
Just a friendly reminder that this WEDNESDAY (June 8) is the date of our monthly Portland Drupal User Group Meeting.
Here's what we've got on the agenda:
1. "A Million Pageviews an Hour: Extreme Drupal Performance" presented by Aaron Longwell
The Kentucky Derby is the most watched horse racing event in the world. It's frequently called "the most exciting two minutes in sports," and is nationally televised on 3 different networks and simulcast worldwide. All that excitement results in www.kentuckyderby.com, the race's official Drupal-powered web site receiving more than 1 million page views in less than an hour.
Presented by Aaron Longwell, Chief Technologist at Culture Foundry, this presentation will cover the hardware, software, Drupal modifications and extensions that enabled the site to serve every one of those pages with sub-200ms response times. In particular, Aaron's talk will discuss helpful Drupal modules, Varnish, HTTP in-browser caching, load balancing, redundancy, load testing, Pressflow, Amazon Web Services, and Capistrano--and how each played a part in the Kentucky Derby site.
Even small sites with little traffic can benefit from many of the techniques and technologies Aaron will be discussing. The talk will be relatively technical in nature (there will even be a bit of code) but even non-developers should learn something about the principles behind super high performance web sites.
2. "Location + Maps: Making it Actually Work" presented by Katrin Silvius
In her recent work, Katrin Silvius, senior web developer at One Economy, has discovered all sorts of bugs and workarounds necessary to make location and maps work well together in Drupal. Katrin will discuss some of the things she's learned from her work and we'll open up the discussion to other developers about best practices and nagging problems with implementing location and maps in Drupal.
Finally, here are the meeting details:
Date: Wednesday, June 8
Time: 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. (after the meeting, we head to Lucky Lab for drinks and conversation!)
Location: OpenSourcery offices (1636 NW Lovejoy St. Portland, OR 97209)
It promises to be really interesting and fun meeting... you don't want to miss it!
See you there,
Ben
What about a train ride?
With PNWDS and BADcamp so close to each other I am thinking of maybe taking the Coast Starlight from Portland to the Bay. Who's with me? We could rent some apartment in Berkeley to further cut costs.

This is a duplicate of an issue I posted on the CTools issue queue, but I thought I'd post here in case people in the local PDX Drupal community might have ideas.
I have been struggling with this issue for over a week, and I was hoping I could get some advice. I have been successfully using the CTools Modal API with forms that I have created myself, and it is working great. It is an awesome tool.
