Return to Portland after 8 years, Need a Reliable Wi-Fi Cafe

Hi everyone, I am returning to live in Portland after living here in the late 90s'. Wow things have changed!

I have a client who needs tutoring on administering their Drupal site, and I want to meet them at an internet cafe or place with free wi-fi.

Can you recommend a cafe or restaurant that is comfortable, not too crowded or noisy, has an attractive environment, and smoke-free atmosphere, and free, reliable, and fast internet? Anywhere downtown, in the NW, or SE would do.

Thanks for the advice, and I hope to make it to the meetup.

Projector needed! The Bus Project's projector will be in use. Does anyone have one that we can use? BenK came through with one for us.

No one interested? Need DB/PHP programmer type dude or dudette for an enterprise level web application for car dealerships.

Have a 4 - month job coming up where we need a really good DB programmer as well as function programmer for an enterprise level app for car dealerships. What they want is ideal for Drupal as a development environment. However lots of customization is going to be needed and lots of Cron jobs. Also a great deal of custom Views will need to be created.

Also will make heavy use of the ads module to target types of users for promotions based on metrics we create.

September meeting

Start:
2007-01-12 18:00 - 20:00 US/Pacific

I'll throw this up early so we can discuss the topic. There was some talk at the last meeting about wanting to see something on theming. If you'd find it interesting or would be willing to do a little presentation, then chime in.

We'll be at the Bus Project for the meeting and then if there's demand, we'll step across the street to Produce Row. See the Google Map for directions.

Note: I corrected the date, we meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, not the 1st as I'd originally posted.

DrupalEd 5.2-1

Get release 5.2-1 here.

From the upgrade notes included in the release:

This upgrade is in response to the CCK security announcement.

While this security upgrade only affects a specific use of CCK that is not present in the DrupalEd configuration, anyone running DrupalEd is strongly advised to upgrade. A healthy dose of paranoia regarding security concerns can save you hours of time/emotional distress.

Drupal for customer support site

The company I work at has chosen Drupal to run the customer support site. I'm wondering if anyone is using Drupal for that use case and if there are some recommended modules that would be appropriate for this type of site.

Here's a sample of things that we'd want to make available to customers (left out core features such as forums):

  • FAQ
  • Tutorials
  • Customer specific views
  • Download center
  • Knowledge base

Thanks,
Thien

OSCAMP 2007

Start:
2007-07-25 09:00 - 2007-07-26 18:00 Etc/GMT

I just wanted to make sure that everyone Portland is aware of OSCamp. It's a free un-conference that'll be held as part of O'Reilly's OSCON 2007. The basic idea is you just show up and show other people what you're working on and see what they're up to. If you can make some time during the day you'll have a blast.

Building install profiles for DrupalEd

From the longer post on the wiki page:

The DrupalEd project is now live on Drupal.org -- we are now ready to use the issue queue to centralize discussion on the different install profiles. In starting to discuss the profiles, I suggest we use the following format, as we will need to answer these questions as we build the various profiles.

Bus Project Tech Team meeting

Start:
2007-06-25 18:30 - 20:00 US/Pacific

Several people at the June PDX Drupal meeting seemed interested in hearing more about the Bus Project's tech needs -- especially how we're using Drupal, and what changes we'd like to make to our Drupal site(s) as we go forward.

We have a standing Tech Team meeting on the forth Monday of each month, which means the next meeting will be June 25th, at Bus HQ (333 SE 2nd, the same spot as the Drupal meeting). If you're interested, we'd love to have you come help the Bus Project explore the area at the intersection between participatory politics and technology.

PDX Peace Drupal site

Howdy,

This spring I've been building a drupal website, and although I've talked with a couple folks in the Portland group, I haven't put it out here on the group list, so here it is - http://www.pdxpeace.org

The PDX Peace site is for a new coalition of peace/antiwar/social justice groups and individuals in Portland, formed during the organizing of the peace rally/march on 4/18/07 on the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq. We're gearing up the website to be a resource for community organizing.

A priority right now is integrating CiviCRM as a organizing database - connected to the login - and be able to collect information from people while they are signing up - I somehow can't seem to manage getting a form from CiviCRM showing up in the registration page (instead of the webform we have now to 'join').

Other obvious 'to-do' items might be using OG for action groups, or use of views/cck, or Panel views for better organized front page items. I'm currently running this site on shared dreamhost server, but but thinking about getting it on an environment that might be better for running civicrm (bryght?).

Any comments, suggestions, ideas/tips or best practices for community organizing drupal websites, would be much appreciated. And if anyone is interested in helping out with the nuts and bolts of CiviCRM or pointing to the right place for information would be helpful.
