This is the group for people who want to discuss Drupal's social networking tools. These tools include modules like Buddylist, Organic Groups, Invite, FOAF, Private message, and so forth. Sites that currently do successful social networking are:
The goal of this group is to foster communication between the developers of Drupal's social networking modules, discuss roadmaps, and collect community input.
What is the best way to allow users to link themselves to specific nodes?
Ok, here is what I am trying to accomplish. I have 2 roles set up on my site we will call them buyers and seller. I also have set up content types called companies. I need a way for seller to associate themselvs several companies (currently set up as individual nodes). Ideally these sellers will search the site for companies and tag the node with their uid. On their profile page I'd like seller to be able to see what companies they have tagged (companies they represent) to enable edit/delete.

PetLove.eu social networking for pets!
Hi, I'm currently working on a social networking site, for pets!! PetLove, I only work on it on my free time, and it´s been more than three months since I started.
Sorry, but it´s only in Spanish (i´ll work on the un-translation as soon as i´m done with the basic functionality of the site, and if anyone wants to help with other languages... :D ).
I would love to start receiving some feedback meanwhile.
Thanks
Newbie with privacy issues
I have two questions that I'm thinking are probably simple solutions but I just don't know how to do it.
-
I'm using the guestbook module and the private message module. Is there any way for users to block other users from posting in their guestbook or send them private messages?
-
I've implemented Organic Groups but the edit tab shows up for users who have just added the group. They're able to modify the name, description of the group, or even delete the group just like the manager who created the group. How can I fix it so that tab does not show for regular group members?

Drupal Development Firms
Hi,
I represent 2 national business publications, and we're issuing an RFP to web development firms for a large scale, social-networking project. We are specifically looking for development firms -- not freelancers. New York City area is preferred, but not required.
If you know of any firms who have experience implementing Drupal for social software projects, please contact me immediately.
Thanks
Read moreVirb: elegant social networking site (like MySpace, Facebook) with tons of web 2.0 features
I got in the Virb beta the other day. Virb is a social networking site on steroids with a facelift. I am amazed at how user friendly it is while packing in all of its features. It's highly customizable and embraces everything that web 2.0 is. Virb allows you take full control of the .css meaning that you can style everything. I'm amazed at some of the sites that were created with a little tweaking.
Have a look on Flickr for some screenshots of Virb profiles: http://flickr.com/search/?q=virb&w=all

The social networking wall
One of the most popular features of social networking sites is the user profile wall. We have done a lot of experimentation with various modules to achieve this effect but haven't got a perfect social networking wall.
A wall needs several features, including:
1) Messaging, such as comments
2) Endorsement which could be implemented as variation of voting for a particular category.
We see promise in nodefamily, usernode, Voting Field for CCK, BuddyList. I am curious what combinations of modules have worked for others.
Cheers,
Kieran
A total guide for building MySpace like community sites using Drupal
hi
I am a total newbie to Drupal. However, I can do some programming using PHP, MySQL, HTML and CSS as required. I am trying to build a MySpace like community site. I need advise on how to go about building such a site. What modules do I need to use and how can I customize the default Drupal configuration? Is there a single page with instructions on how I can do it?
Please let me know if Drupal is not the right tool for this job. In such a case, please suggest alternatives.
Thanks for your advise and suggestions/recommendations.

Read moreAllowing each organic group to provide its own domain or subdomain
Adrian provides a potential solution for me to easily set up and host groups.mysite.com with his MultiDomain, UserDomains, and OGDomains modules. I believe this can help in the set up of community and social networking sites.
Here's a link to some basic info in which he describes the MultiDomain module and his plans for two closely-related follow-on modules.
I'm looking forward to testing the above modules. Thanks Adrian!!!

I was checking out www.tagworld.com. I think it would be tough, but does anybody even know how to BEGIN making a dynamic profile generator like they use? That would be invaluable for admins, I'm sure.
Basically, TagWorld lets users create a profile using on-the-fly blocks to litter a page. It's very fast-moving and results in really customizable pages. It's probably one of the best page-making set-ups I've seen for any site, period.
EDIT: Live Spaces (http://spaces.live.com) uses the same sort of system.

It's looking like there's already a ton of interest and excitement pertaining to install profiles and distributions. As Drupal groups seem to be an ideal platform for collaboration, I'm thinking we should continue to figure out/define some best practices or rules of the road pertaining to keeping the communication open while keeping the signal to noise ratio high.
I'm assuming there are no clear answers or set guidelines, but here are some questions...
