Well priced training 6mnths-year
Hi South Africa,
I have a question, does anyone know of any companies that are offering a mixed bag of training options that would fit in well with someone going the php opensource direction of web design, something that will be well rounded, basic to advanced and not prohibitively expensive. well rounded being the operative word.
Read moreTiny MCE not using theme CSS even though it's set to
I'm using Drupal 6.13 with the WYSIWIG module and tinyMCE.
I have used WYSIWIG module's profile>configure dialogue to set tinyMCE to "Use theme CSS". When inputting data using tinyMCE, the style is not the site's themed style, however the resulting node displays to the correct css. Is this the way it is supposed to work or should the text I'm typing into the editor be using the site's theme css as I type?
I posted this question in the forums and it got buried with no responses. Thanks for any help with this!
Read moreFiltering User Generated CSS
There are several modules which allow for user/admin generated css to be injected into the page.
CSS can contain cross site scripting attacks and the use of url() helps make it a means to exploit CSRF. What can we do to filter user generated CSS so that it is safe?
One strategy seems to be something like the way color module/garland work: users are limited to choosing specific colors which are inserted into specific pieces of the CSS. This is also what a lot of other sites do (twitter, bebo, etc.). That's great, but limiting.
Read moreCompression -- Drupal side or Apache side or both?
Which would produce a better compression rate -- using mod_deflate on the Apache instance side for css/js files and/or using Gzip for Javascript/CSS on the Drupal side?
I am looking for overall site performance aspects as well (i.e. additional CPU time, memory allocation, etc).

I've been trying to get my head around exactly how I can prepare my own web page design using an external style sheet and adapt it for or fit it to, say for example, a zen sub theme. I get the impression that the main concern is that one builds one's page to suit a 1. 2. 3 or even 4 column design with header and footer and then depending on one's basic theme one can add blocks for content within those column areas and designate which content goes in which block? Perhaps I just haven't messed around enough yet with the other themes.
Read moreStress-testing my module's CSS layout
This isn't strictly speaking about a theme, but it is about CSS code in my module that may be broken by conflicting layout in custom themes.
In DHTML Menu, I am developing a new feature that will make bullet icons clickable by positioning an invisible anchor element over the list icon. It's important to get the position exactly right no matter how the list is styled by the theme, so I'll need some help testing the CSS with different themes (or some advice from a CSS expert on potential problems).

Read moreThe DOM, Advanced CSS, and Browser Compatibility
In the March meeting that just happened, Tom did a good job of quickly covering the DOM, explaining that every browser implements the DOM differently, and then telling us that we shouldn't have to worry about that because of libraries like jQuery. jQuery handles all the incompatibilities behind the scenes and gives you a single method to call all the time. It's great for developers - it just works. If you ever do research on plain DOM methods, you'll quickly find pages talking about which browsers support those methods and how to get the same effect in all browsers.
